A 3-Step Plan For When Anxiety Strikes

Are you working to cure your anxiety, or are you just coping with it? When most people are hit by anxiety, they don’t want to deal with it. They just want to make it “go away” as quickly as possible. Sometimes, that means popping a pill. Other times they try to pretend it’s not happening and bury their anxiety deep down inside – only to have it rear it’s ugly head in the middle of the night, robbing them of some desperately needed sleep. Some people avoid the situations that trigger their anxiety all together. Usually it’s a combination of all three.  Free Live Training… How To Calm Your ..read more

Ah….relationships. They can be tough. Anyone who has been in one that lasted more than a month can tell you it’s true … although not many people can put their finger on why. Why does it get so hard to just “be” with someone you love? Why do we find ourselves struggling to stay connected? How do we slip into feeling misunderstood, underappreciated, and sometimes even resentful? https://youtu.be/qR5UmZF-JvM Relationship experts over at the Gottman Institute report that healthy and stable relationships have a specific formula to them and it goes like this … for every negative experience there sho ..read more

Celebrating is a good thing, right? Of course it is. Just look at all the fun ways we celebrate things. Fireworks! House parties! Too much wine! Setting off fireworks in the house party because we’ve had too much wine. If it doesn’t kill us first, celebrating makes us feel good … great even. So, how can it be wrong? It can’t be, and that’s not my lesson in this post. What I’m sharing with you today, friends, is that it’s not bad to celebrate your wins, but celebrate them for the joy they bring in the moment, not the anticipated joy you think they’ll bring you in the future. There is a risk in ..read more

Rest. Do less. Rest. Play. Do less. Rest.

This guest post is by Elyse Shafarman from the bodyproject.   How do you handle the need to rest when ill, injured or mentally burnt out? Try out the idea of allowing rest and play time, but not making it bigger than that. You don’t need to create a story about why you got sick or injured and how you could have done better. I like the phrase, “No need to make it bigger than it is.” You can say this to yourself when you start to freak out about not feeling up to par. Yes, your body needs rest to heal. This doesn’t have to mean anything more than that. Illness can be metaphorical, and often ..read more

If you’re having problems with anxiety and you go to a therapist for help, you’re likely to talk about your childhood, your self-confidence and the problems you’re experiencing in your everyday life. Your therapist will probably teach you some healthy ways to cope with your anxiety. They’ll give you some strategies for letting go of old wounds and making peace with your current situation. They might also recommend medication. But this is only a short term solution that can have severe and long-lasting side effects.  If you’re lucky, your therapist might also talk to you a little bit about ..read more

How To Achieve Your Goals Right This Moment

I was pretty young the first time I heard the famous John Lennon quote, “Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans.” So it pretty much got the standard young folk treatment from me … eye roll … “old people!” It didn’t really resonate with me until I got a little older. The idea that we let the precious moments of our lives roll on by, uncherished and with little attention, because we’re focused on what we think is the real prize waiting further down the road. The day-to-day is just a necessary evil to get through … something in the way of a goal we think we have to reac ..read more

Beating Anxiety With Self-Talk: A Cheat-Sheet

Think back to the last time you were anxious. Do you remember the conversation you were having with yourself before the anxiety hit? Probably not. Most likely, you can only remember how you felt. The fear. The panic. The worry. And that’s normal. We can get so overwhelmed by the feelings that anxiety brings on that we don’t pay any attention to what we’re saying to ourselves in the moment. In an earlier post, we talked about the importance of tackling anxiety from every angle. And how we talk to ourselves is a big factor in that equation. In this post, I want to help you identify your negative ..read more

The number one cure-all … and I’ll reveal it here

I have a friend with a cure for absolutely anything. Well, it’s actually her dad’s cure-all. And it’s grape juice. If she told him her stomach hurt when she was little, he’d give her a glass of grape juice. If she had a headache, grape juice to the rescue. If she was upset because someone teased her … “Let’s get you a glass of grape juice.” Minor burn from a Fourth of July sparkler … “Rub a little grape juice on it.” To this day, a glass of grape juice can still raise her spirits. Needless to say, grape juice is not actually a recommended treatment for most ailments, although there’s a lot to ..read more

Self-Compassion: The Foundation of Healing Anxiety

If you’ve ever struggled to get control of your anxiety, you know it can feel like a massively huge, impossible mountain to climb. Because to really heal anxiety, you have to identify and address not only its root cause, but any other factors that contribute to your cycles of worry and panic. I recently wrote about healing anxiety holistically by addressing the big issues like childhood trauma, bad relationships or a stressful job, as well as incorporating day-to-day practices like mindfulness, exercise and turning around negative thought patterns and nutritional deficiencies. This is a lot of ..read more
