A teacher was recently hired at a Back2Back partnering children’s home in Mexico to provide additional educational support for the children who live there. Over 90% of them faced significant educational deficiencies, and staff wanted to provide as much assistance as they could, allowing progress to occur. Shortly after instruction began, staff realized a new classroom was imperative, as the deterioration of where they were meeting presented a severe obstacle to learning. This, along with several spaces occupied and used regularly by the girls in the home, were the main focus for a visiting mis ..read more

For young women in Mexico and of Mexican descent, turning 15 is a momentous and highly honored occasion. A quinceanera is a night every young girl looks forward to – a party held to honor her transition into womanhood, surrounded by her closest family and friends. Recently, Cali* celebrated her 15th birthday in this special fashion. Her sponsor generally visits every summer, but this year decided to come for this particular birthday. He wanted to be present for this important milestone and brought a gift with him she can treasure forever. In the days leading up to the party, he helped decorate ..read more

Over the last 27 years, Back2Back staff have met very young children, often from heartbreaking circumstances, and come alongside them in their healing and growing. Lucía* is a young woman staff met ten years ago at a partnering home for children with disabilities. Over the years of care she received, Lucía grew emotionally and socially, better understanding each day her own value and the power of her voice. In the last nine months, Lucía expressed a desire to be with biological family. If biological family is a safe and secure option for the children Back2Back serves globally, reunification is ..read more

Lisa and Rick Bursey have a dream. They’re in a large room with a group of people, each one with a story unique from the others. There are foster moms, Back2Back staff, a children’s home director, and biological parents all gathered, learning from each other, making connections, and establishing community.  “My dream is interdependence,” explained Lisa Bursey, Back2Back Linares Co-Director. “I want this to be a safe space to ask questions, where relationships are cultivated in such a way we aren’t the ultimate source, but the connection between them and the best resources.”  In 2022 ..read more

For over 25 years, Back2Back Ministries has held their hands open as an organization. This means, if there is training another non profit could benefit from, it is shared; if there are resources available that have proven effective, they are given. We are a ministry that believes deeply in sharing open handedly. This way of thinking manifests in many ways, and recently, the Cincinnati team was called upon to do just that. “We were introduced to Wesley Chapel in 2023,” shared Chris Cox, Back2Back Cincy Director. “They serve 93 children a day on the West End of the city. Two of their staff membe ..read more

Our Back2Back Linares site in Mexico is undergoing a makeover. It has been home to Possibilities House, a residential children’s home for up to 12 kids and their caregivers over the last nine years. Staff at the home have welcomed families, witnessed first generation graduations, facilitated space and care for healing, and in this new season, they are growing! The land the children call home is Back2Back’s ninth site in Linares. Ground recently broke on-site for new construction and building, and the growing staff team is investing intentionally to open doors for new programming. The Strong Fa ..read more

written by Hope Garcia, Back2Back D.R. Co-Director For as the soil makes the sprout come up and a garden causes seeds to grow, so the Sovereign Lord will make righteousness and praise spring up before all nations. Isaiah 61:11 It was early morning in the beginning of 2023, and my husband and I were praying and lamenting together for the DR site. “Another year has passed, and it feels like other ministries are flourishing, and we are still tilling the same ground.” It was a heavy feeling, but how much of it was truth and how much was just a lie the enemy wanted us to believe?   Our fr ..read more

It was 2010, and Matt and Julie Cooper, long-time friends and staff members, joined us in Cancun to explore the possibility of a new site. We had some appointments to see children’s homes and were all praying God would make it clear where He wanted our next investment. We visited an all-girl’s children’s home and realized all four of us in one office might be intimidating, so we split up; Matt and Todd sat with the director while Julie and I went to the playground to be with the children.  Four-year-old twins, Sara* and Christina* sidled beside me and began braiding my hair. They were mak ..read more

Haiti and her people continue to persevere despite ongoing turmoil across the country. Back2Back staff eagerly pursue special activities or moments to hold space for the children and families they serve. Morale can get low as changes are processed, and staff want to remind them there is still joy to be found.  One partnering children’s home in the area has relocated multiple times in response to nearby insecurities. This has been an emotionally charged time, impacting moods and focus with each move; the home’s director wanted to bolster their felt-safety and encourage joy seeking. &n ..read more

Dirt paths wind from nearby villages to an area surrounded by black rocks- a God-crafted jungle gym. Within those rocks sits an educational oasis providing comfort, access, safe adults, snacks, and support. Inside those walls a young girl’s future was reclaimed, restored, and renamed. “I was not good at many things,” she shared evenly. “I struggled to read, to speak English; really, I had no hope for my own future.” Amara* is the fourth child of nine and grew up in a village near the Education Center. The center, founded in 2011, provides holistic care to children through educational tutoring ..read more
