Nulu’s Story “BECAUSE IN COMPASSION, WHEN WE FEEL WITH THE OTHER, WE DETHRONE OURSELVES FROM THE CENTER OF OUR WORLD AND WE PUT ANOTHER PERSON THERE.”  - KAREN ARMSTRONG At Project Orphans, we are “can-do” people. Often in life, it is too easy to say what can't be done or we focus on the barriers that hinder us from helping someone because we don’t have all the answers or resources. One of our organization’s core values is to be quick to respond to a person’s need and we do this through a lens of compassion.  Nulu’s survival depended on the value of compassion.  At 34 years of ..read more

A Message from our Co-Founders this Thanksgiving "EVERY CHILD OF GOD OVERCOMES THE WORLD, FOR OUR FAITH IS THE VICTORIOUS POWER  THAT TRIUMPHS OVER THE WORLD.” - 1 JOHN 5 Last year, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic. Over the past 18-months, Uganda has implemented all sorts of lockdowns, curfews, and restrictions to minimize spread. These social control measures made serving and protecting children, young girls, and the vulnerable harder than ever before.  Nearly a year-and-a-half later, in July 2021, restrictions have started to lift. However, the afte ..read more

A Story of Faith, Determination, & Courage “INJUSTICE  ANYWHERE IS A THREAT TO JUSTICE EVERYWHERE.”   - Martin Luther King The silence that surrounds the act of rape is almost as heinous as the crime itself. It is estimated that more than one million women are exposed to or experience sexual violence every year in Uganda. The country’s corruption, lack of police infrastructure, poor legislation, and life-threatening fear makes it difficult for victims to come forward and seek help.  Sarah had just turned 18 years old when she was raped. A man named Dembe had foun ..read more

Rushed to the hospital, Specioza was admitted into Project Orphan’s - Miracle Birthing Center at 40 weeks pregnant. It was that time! This baby was on its way and as the PO Medical Team prepared for the delivery, Specioza remained quiet and undeniably nervous.  Regrettably, Specioza had experienced the loss of an unborn child due to former delivery complications. For this reason, Specioza qualified for a cesarean section. The anesthesiologist administered a spinal block while the PO medical team prepped the operating room. Then Dr. Ernest and Claire, Project Orphan’s Midwife, got to work ..read more

Every child deserves a family! At Project Orphans, we believe that children of all ages do best in a family setting versus an institutionalized orphanage. Our organization is currently pioneering a new way of care for the orphaned in Uganda, Africa. How? By raising a network of Ugandan foster mothers who are committed to supporting the orphaned or abused children — by raising them as their own! When a child is brought to our organization, we work to get him or her placed into a loving home as quickly as possible. Jaja Patience is one of our foster mothers who believes she was placed on this ea ..read more

Special needs children in Uganda often grow up in impossible circumstances. As a third-world country, Uganda’s homes are in ruins, schools are structurally unsound, and medical care is hard to come by. Inflation, drought, and lack of resources make purchasing quality-food very difficult and nearly impossible in rural Uganda. More than fifth of all Ugandans still lack access to clean water and live below the poverty line. And sadly, millions wake up hungry every day. Children who live with a disability are subject to malnourishment and can often starve to death. Ambrose was one of those c ..read more
