Reposted: Most of us avoid talking about death, but in reality many of us think about it regularly. None of us know what the future brings but death is a certainty. We just don’t know when and how.
The Jewish New Year (Rosh Hashanah) was recently celebrated, closely followed by the 10 days of Awe leading to Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, which is today. It is the time for prayer and atonement so as to be inscribed in the Book of Life and to have another year. The Book of Life is then sealed on Yom Kippur. A well known poem called Unetan ..read more

It is Sunday evening and I am excited as I sit down to write tomorrow’s blog- having now written over 400 blog posts for you. Thank you for reading and the theme of today’s blog is gratitude. I hope you can join me in celebrating good things- birthdays, anniversary, recovery journeys (Ziggy is doing well, thank you), and friendships and at the top of the list- family. Both the public and medical professionals can be dismissive and uncomfortable with the idea that older people often still desire sexuality and intimacy. Despite societal stereotypes and misconceptions, older adults continue to experience desires and sexual needs well into their later years.
Embracing the reality of aging and sexuality is crucial to ..read more

Wow it is hot out there! With temperatures in the 30’s, 40’s and in some places, the 60’s, it can be difficult to enjoy ourselves away from the air conditioning. And as we are well aware, not everyone has access to A/C. While we all may be aware of the dementia crisis that is increasingly heading our way, it often takes a celebrity to truly raise the issue and increase our general awareness levels. I am referring to FTD or frontotemporal dementia and Bruce Willis’ recent diagnosis.
Dementia is a syndrome describing a series of symptoms including memory loss, loss of judgement and language, problem-solving and other processing abilities that are severe enough to interfere with daily activities of daily life. Alzheimer’s is the most common cause of dementia. FTD is less wel ..read more

Bell Let’s Talk. Not sure what I was doing on January 25, 2023 but I missed this important day so am providing a shout out now to talk about ‘good’ mental health. For many of us, obtaining and maintaining a good mental equilibrium is no easy feat. Let’s face it, Covid didn’t help.
