In that second instalment we promised, now we’ll address the question on everyone’s lips:
“What’s going to happen with Scream 7?”
Whilst we don’t know a lot for sure, we can say assuredly that the project is still going ahead, and still eyeing that early 2024 shoot date.
In what is described as a “complete creative reboot,” screenwriters James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will remain with the project, but completely overhaul the script. However, director Christopher Landon’s continued participation remains unclear.
Following the dismissal of lead Melissa Barrera, their initial pitch is now withou ..read more

Despite under performing during its opening weekend, Eli Roth’s slasher movie Thanksgiving is proving to have the legs we all hoped it would.
Over the five-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend Roth’s film took in an impressive $10 million. $7.2 million of that was netted from Thanksgiving’s second weekend, meaning the film held up impressively well, avoiding a sophomore slump.
It is generally understood that horror films will drop 50% or more in their second weekend. This has been very evident in 2023’s release roster, with Five Nights at Freddy’s plummeting 73% from it’s opening. Similarly, The E ..read more

October was a very lucrative month for horror to say the least, but perhaps no studio has reaped the rewards more that Blumhouse Productions.
Beginning October 6th, Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer topped the box-office and went on to gross $135 million worldwide. This was an overperformance, given the film’s mixed to negative critical reception and polarizing reaction from audiences.
That alone would’ve been a fruitful October for Blumhouse, but just 3 weeks later, the hotly anticipated Five Nights at Freddy’s adaption hit screens. With an enormous opening weekend haul of $130 million, the ..read more

Recently we reported that Saw X had crossed that all-important $100 million mark at the worldwide box-office.
In that same article we speculated that this may just guarantee an eleventh film in the franchise, but also wondered where that could possibly go.
Now, it seems we have somewhat of an answer from Saw X actress Synnøve Macody Lund. Lund appears in Saw X as Dr Cassandra Pederson, offering a life-saving cancer treatment to Tobin Bell’s John Kramer. Unfortunately, Pederson and her entire operation is a scam, prompting Kramer to enact brutal revenge under his Jigsaw persona.

Eli Roth’s much-anticipated holiday slasher Thanksgiving opened November 17th, and much to everyone’s surprise, the movie was a critical darling.
Having been in the works for 16 years, the feature is the result of a faux trailer Roth created for the 2007 double feature Grindhouse. The old-school slasher aesthetic was so effective that fans have clamoured for a full-length movie ever since.
Now that it’s here, the reception couldn’t be any better, with fans and critics embracing the film and hailing it as a new yearly staple. Roth’s direction, writing and the movie’s overall look have been laud ..read more

In our second anniversary retrospective this week, we have an eighties slasher staples celebrating an impressive four decades on celluloid.
Sleepaway Camp came along at the tail end of the initial slasher boom, seeming to follow a well-worn formula. The campground slasher had become old-hat by 1983, following the likes of Friday the 13th, Madman, and The Burning.
Robert Hiltzik’s movie had some vital ingredients unique to it that its contemporaries were missing, however. First and foremost, a great deal of heart. Hiltzik made Sleepaway Camp on a shoestring budget of $350,000, using all his mon ..read more
