Can I use Murphy's Wood Cleaner before sanding and painting?

I have excitedly started my first upcycling project! I want to paint and wallpaper an old wooden end table. I'm cleaning the piece. First, I used a water/vinegar solution, but it didn't feel super effective. So, I went to the hardware store and asked for advice. They sold me Murphy's... I can find posts online saying that's perfectly fine for my purposes (I will afterall be sanding it later), and I can find posts that say to "never EVER do that!" I'm confused and would love to hear from someone with firsthand experience! ♥️ Photo of the piece attached. https://preview.redd.it/h4hf5oarwhwc ..read more

Upcycling / restoring old wicker furniture

Hey guys :) Recently bought a house and the owner left us great wicker patio furniture! The only thing is, it's a bit old. It's still stable and able to be used, but I want to give it a facelift. Has anyone ever restored wicker furniture? I have a loveseat, a single chair, a rocking chair, and a small coffee table. It is generic, white painted wicker furniture, like everyone had in the nineties. Looking for help and suggestions if you have them! Specifically - Should I sand them down? Can I use spray paint to re-paint them? Do I need a paint primer before I paint them? submitted by /u/sm0key ..read more

Prom dress idea? Here's one way to upcycle old CDs. [Would love to know the dress creator and model! Not sure of the photo source. Found it in a folder named "2013 fun photos".]

What to do with old tshirts?

I have a very large amount (30) of old work shirts that are no longer relevant. They are made from some sort of polyester that just, absorbs smells like no tomarrow. All the upcycling I've seen tends to be, something worn or used close to the body. And like, this fabric does not wash well. I really don't want to just toss them, but I have no idea what to do with them. submitted by /u/miffness [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I have this garden hedgehog which I'd like to sand down and paint in some brighter colours. It looks like it's made from pot but it's very light, so it can't be pot. I'm not sure what it's made of. What kind of paint should I use? submitted by /u/jen13579 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Found this print in the back of a thrift store, had likely been there a while. Added some new flair before I hang it on the wall in my new house. submitted by /u/jerryreedsthumb [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Trash Nothing

I recently found the app "Trash Nothing" where you can post things or request items for free. I do book swaps, found a new thrift shop in need of hangers, and directly gave people an old microwave, iron, etc. I don't like donating to goodwill because I know someone might scalp my clothes (I wear a lot of decent workout gear!), or throw away the appliances even if they work. The app lets you join groups in your zip code (or wherever you want) for free, and isn't riddled with ads. For this sub, if you need anything for upcycling projects, or want to declutter without dumping more trash in a lan ..read more
