DIY No Sew Beach Blanket in a Bag

Beach days are my favorite days. I love everything but walking in really loose sand which makes me feel like an uncoordinated clod. As I sling sand everywhere I watch other people seemingly glide across the sand in comparison. But there I am kicking up sand, flinging it up into my shorts off of the backs of my flip flops and generally looking like I’m flailing. Because I am. But sand walking aside everything else is pretty amazing. After a day at the beach my hair looks AMAZING. I’m not sure where all that body and wave goes on landlocked days but on beach days my hair goes fro ..read more

Glittering Gem Mason Jars with DIY Solar Lids

Now this isn’t the first time I’ve covered a mason jar with gems and it won’t be the last. It’s such a simple but beautiful project and I’m constantly searching after the next adhesive to use to make it work out. Now the best I’ve used before this attempt was clear silicone caulk with the glass gems on glass. It worked like a dream and the stones never went anywhere despite heat or cold BUT it has a totally different look and feel to it, especially in person. This go I went with Aleene’s Bead and Glass Glue and I’m so  happy with the results. Those suckers are ON there really well. If yo ..read more

Junk Dragonfly Yard Art

So I’ve been making all sorts of stuff for my Momma to put in her backyard. She, like me, loves colorful things so I have been taking the color on full hilt! I guess it was 3 or 4 years ago now that we saw at the Dog Days Flea Market in Sulphur, OK some dragonflies made out of, for lack of a better word, junk. I always loved those and so did my mom. For ages I kept my eyes peeled for old fan blades but I never, ever found any. And then we went to the Habitat for Humanity Restore in McAllen and they had TONS of them. They wanted $2 apiece, which seemed high, but since Rob was paying and he did ..read more

Homemade Orange Oil

It’s pretty dang neat but oranges actually grow here. And lemons and limes and all of that jazz does really well here, too. There are these little oranges that you can get at the store for like 8 for $1 and Rob and I have been going nuts on them. We’re also getting after blood oranges, Cuties and Cara Cara oranges. We seriously just came back from the store where I got silicone caulk, he got a bunch of salt and sand and $9 worth of oranges. :) And why shouldn’t we go nuts? they are in season and reasonably priced. It’s awesome. And since I also like to use orange oil in homemade cleaners and ..read more

Colorful Clothespin Trivets

So Mr. Rob has been cooking up a storm, lately. He’s a big fan of skillet meals so he often brings the cast iron skillet over to the table and we can get more as needed and it stays hot. It’s pretty smart, really. When I cook I dirty up a bazillion pots and pans and he can get away with 1 most times but sometimes a whole, whopping 2. Now I had always had the food left on the stove to stay warm when I cooked and that’s the way it’s always been in my family. You go back to the stove to get extras. But we’re eating at a table every single day so now we bring the food with us. We purchased 1 triv ..read more

So Rob and I had been in South Texas for ages and AGES and we could never find any place to purchase pallets for my pallet wood craft projects. I had just  gotten into this whole business when I was moving away from Oklahoma and I had a great source for pallet wood. They were cheap and in various states of wear that made finding the perfect wood for the project so easy. We get here and I’m going around to hardware stores and every place I can think of to find them and no place, absolutely no place gives them away or sells them. But, I’ve gotten pretty dang good at faux distressing brand new wo ..read more
