US Ignite Inc., a nonprofit organization helping to accelerate advanced
networking technologies, and Cox Communications this week announced the designation of
the city of Las Vegas as the newest member of the Smart Gigabit Communities
(SGC) program. Funded by the National Science
Foundation (NSF)
in 2015, US Ignite’s SGC program is creating “living lab” environments for the
next generation of gigabit applications. Las Vegas, the 25th community

The Neighborhood Partners Fund (NPF) is designed to assist in improving livability in the city through community matched funding for neighborhood improvement projects; it provides funding opportunities for neighborhood associations to generate resolutions to critical neighborhood issues. Nearly 70 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers participated in southern Nevada’s first full-scale CERT exercise on Saturday, March 10. The day-long event provided the volunteers, all of who had previously completed the CERT course, the opportunity to learn new skills and practice what they learned in a realistic scenario.During the first half of the day, the volunteers learned how to provide medical treatment and medical triage; how to implement cribbing techniques; and how to conduct search and rescue operations (including wall breaches).
