Hello to everyone who also and unfortunately browses this sub, I recently experienced a non-contact injury to my knee, which I suspect might involve both my meniscus and/or MCL. The pain has been persistent for about five weeks, and now I’m dealing with visible bruising, swelling, and increased discomfort. While I’m waiting for my doctor’s appointment, I’d appreciate any advice or tips on managing the pain and promoting healing. Deets: occurred five weeks ago bruising and swelling have become more pronounced since 5 days ago -putting weight on the affected leg is challenging.(usually fi ..read more

Mom needs knee surgery, most likely total replacement. Been just looking at different types of surgeries and techniques out there. What are the pros and cons of each? Are all of them utilizing robotics these days? Should I be looking for a surgeon that specializes in a specific robotic technology like Makoplasty? submitted by /u/stuwbgn16 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Inner Knee Pain Issue

Towards the end of January this year I started developing a pain in the front of my thigh when running which gradually developed into sharp inner knee pain, below the kneecap along the inner edge of the knee. It got bad enough to sideline me from running for a while. I barely ran for 5 weeks, but that seemed to make it significantly worse. I've been to a physio twice, she said I have one weak glute medius and one strong one so the imbalance is causing my knee pain which is irritation and not an actual injury. I've been running regularly for over 3 years and have had this strength imbalance fo ..read more

Patella Alta and Hoffa’s syndrome. Surgery or specific exercises?

After years of pain after an accident, and one successful surgery that sadly relapsed after a year, I’ve just been diagnosed with the two things in the title. Hoffas is only slight, but Alta is Alta (no clue how bad tho). I’m now waiting from a call from my orthopedic surgeon, who’ll explain what the suggested procedure is. But, before that I’d like to know if any of you have had experience with this? I’ve never had success with the KOT program, even when following it to a T, so I imagine those aren’t what I should be focusing on. So, are there exercises that can help mitigate it, or is surge ..read more

Anyone here ever had a patellar fracture or patellar tendon tear? I want to hear your experience with symptoms, treatment, and recovery time.

So, I have been dealing with a knee injury that occurred in mid December of 2023. I fell directly on my bent knee after slipping on wet leaves on my driveway and landed on a sharp piece of gravel. I've been through 3 providers now, and none of them could get to the root of my symptoms with my knee. I have been researching symptoms of patellar tear and fracture, and they seem to line up with what I'm experiencing. I'm seeing a new (4th) provider next week and I want to go in with an idea of what to ask them to look for. My symptoms: - cannot bend knee past just over 90 degrees - cannot fully e ..read more

Old PCL Tear - Would surgery help?

I fully tore my PCL about 5 years ago. It was a Grade 3 Tear (I ripped the damn thing in half). The doctor told me that the fibers of the ligament had stayed in contact and would heal over time with no need of surgery. However, he also mentioned that the ligament would be a little bit longer than it should be and my knee would feel "a little different, forever." I am only 26 years old and I don't fancy the idea of having to deal with this for the rest of my life. I've even developed issues in my good leg and hip because I favor it so much. But low and behold his words were prophetic, and I ha ..read more

Felt a pop or just hit knee hard?

So while jumping into a river today nearby a rock, as soon as I jumped in I cannot tell whether I just hit my knee really hard on a rock or worse. I’ve torn my other knees PCL and have dislocated my same knee 2x and with all of those I was completely unable to walk and in extreme pain. I was able to swim to shore, did a little damage assessment before being able to stand up and walk back up a steep trail no problem. As of now the only pain I feel is minor on the inside of my knee when it is completely straight. I’m hoping it’s just a bad hit or partial dislocation. Anyone got any ideas? subm ..read more

(18m) I have a lot of knee clicking which hasn't concerned up to now but when i extend my right leg it has a feeling that its cracking into place. if i put my hand on my left knee and straighten/bend it it feels pretty smooth but if i put it on my right knee i feel a lot of cracking as it straightens (little sperate cracks) which then lead to one big crack/pop when its straight. I'm not sure if this is what grinding is because i don't really feel or hear it. it doesn't happen all the time I straighten it but it dose happen most times my knee never locks, I'm not overweight and i am very activ ..read more

Should I get a second opinion?

My knee has been bothering me for about 6 months now. I am clumsy and learning to roller skate so I fall a lot, but I can’t pinpoint a specific moment where I injured myself. It just kind of felt worse and worse over time until eventually even low impact exercises hurt to do. I finally went to a doctor and both my primary doctor and the PA to the orthopedic surgeon thought it was a meniscus injury because of where it hurts. I got an MRI and the Orthopedic surgeon said it was an ACL sprain, but that doesn’t feel correct to me since it doesn’t really hurt where he said I should be feeling it. H ..read more
