How to Study the Bible on Your Own

My desire with All God’s Women is that it will inspire you to want to study more in depth on your own. But maybe you’re not sure how to do that. It’s easy to quickly read the stories and assume that what you notice on a surface level is all there is to it. Take it a little slower, however, and you begin to notice things you didn’t catch before. Start asking questions, and your understanding takes on a whole new level. Here are some questions to guide you along as you read about the different women in the Bible: Who was this woman? (genealogy, family, marital status, social status, character ..read more

Job’s Wife – A Bitter Woman

How do you react when tragedy hits? Do you turn to God for help or do you reject Him and blame Him for what happened?  In today’s episode of All God’s Women, we look at Job’s wife, a woman like Zeresh, who gave bad advice to her husband, but we have no evidence that she ever turned from her foolish thinking. Having 42 chapters, Job is one of the longer books in the Bible. Entire chapters are dedicated to  advice from Job’s friends, Job’s response to his friends, and Job’s conversations with the Lord. Only four verses, however, make mention of Job’s wife. And though we’re told the na ..read more

And as soon as you gave it, you began to regret it, but it was too late and everyone else was already on board?  In today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at Zeresh, our final woman in the Women of Esther series. Zeresh gave really bad advice to her husband and paid the ultimate price because of it. Her Story  Zeresh was the wife of Haman, prime minister during King Ahasuerus’s reign. Tidewater Bride – Book Review

I’m getting more selective in the books I choose to review. This one wasn’t my usual choice, but something about it drew me to accept the review invitation. I’m glad I did. Tidewater Bride is a wonderful story that kept me captivated to the end. Tidewater Bride doesn’t follow the typical romance formula. There’s no cute meet because the love interests already know each other. It’s not even a case where they know each other but hate each other. No, theirs is a slow romance that develops over time. It further deviates from the formula when they get together but that’s not the end of the story ..read more

Have you ever questioned God’s judgement? Why has He allowed you to go through so much? What if God is putting you right where you need to be in order to do a mighty work through you?  In today’s episode of All God’s Women we look at Esther, a perfect example of God at work behind the scenes in ways we may never understand. Backstory King Ahasuerus had a problem. Four years had passed since he’d banished Queen Vashti. They’d been difficult years, full of political and military challenges. In Exodus 35:25-26 we find an often overlooked group of Bible women, described as gifted artisans. All you crafters, knitters, crocheters, and quilters are going to appreciate this passage. We’re told that all the women who were gifted artisans spun yarn with their hands and brought the blue, purple, and scarlet fine linen to the tabernacle. And all the women whose hearts stirred with wisdom spun yarn from goats’ hair. This was their tabernacle offering.  God gives us each unique gifts. We may sometimes think that our talents aren’t as useful as someone else’s, but God gifts us and He ca ..read more

I’ve always loved the beginning of January. After the excitement of the holidays, it’s a time of quiet reflection on the past year and renewed energy and anticipation of the year to come.  In the olden days, I’d labor over a list of New Year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, come mid January, I’d already forgotten what they were as I merrily went on my way just as I’d done the year before.  Then someone introduced me to having a Word of the Year. At first, I didn’t quite understand it. It seemed weird to me. But the more I pondered it, the more I grew to like the idea. Now, I can’t imagi ..read more

Submission, what does it mean to you? Do you always submit to your husband or to those in authority? Why might you not submit to them? In today’s episode of All God’s Woman, we look at Queen Vashti, a woman who openly defied her husband, and as a result was banished from her royal position.  Backstory We all know the story of Esther, but if not for the actions of Vashti, there would be no Queen Esther. Vashti was the original wife of King Ahasuerus, and what a mighty king he was. During his reign he was the most powerful king in the world, reigning over 127 provinces from India to Ethiop ..read more
