I am the Other Cat- the Other Woman. I am Tia the Calico!
So there I was, living at Cat House, surrounded by 24 other cats of every size and style. Waiting to be rescued. Waiting for my own home.
Elvis stopped by. In 13 seconds, my life forever changed. I was picked up - by the basset alpha of Surf Dog Diaries. In no time, I was in the car in a box, on my way to my new home with my new surf dog family. (Surf dog family?!)
It was obvious right away that Elvis didn’t care what breed or color ..read more

Funny doxie video! Summers in the Columbia River Gorge - water sports fun for dogs and friends
I’ve been riding short boards all summer long, windsurfing in big Gorge winds.
Meanwhile, Doodle’s been hanging 20 toes in the sand and playing meet/greet with beach goers.
It was his time! I wasn’t sure we remembered how….
Here’s a GoPro from Sunday’s practice session for King of the Hook freestyle contest next weekend.
It still works! Hooray ..read more

Dear Dog Diary:
I remember the day She first picked me up. It was in the Cattery at the jail with all those other kitties.
Actually, it wasn’t bad, it was San Diego Humane Society – but it was still jail. That place in between. For homeless kitties.
Geez, was it noisy, with all that mee-yow-ing in the Cattery. Like all those little baby kitties were helpless.
Not me.

Doodle on the nose and our new rescue pup behind him, six days after adoption. Doodle has his eye on a stick, as usual. Photo (c) Barb Ayers DogDiary.org
A new rescue pup, a chiweenie, adopts us on Mother's Day. The day I was mom’d again.
On momma day, Doodle and I headed to south San Diego, near the US border. We spotted a chiweenie, a rescued Mexican street dog named Memo on Petfinder. We met him in the Walmart National City parking lot after his foster mom braved a four hour border entry.
I had wanted Memo for several weeks, and it became more urgent after Doodle’s recent diagnosis of adva ..read more

From my home in Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA - 3 blocks from the Original Dog Beach, the first least-free beach in America, 2004
Elvis, the big ol’ droopy eyed saggy basset hound, swayed around the house, scraping against the walls of the dinky beach cottage.
Walking for any length of time ate up his one-big-energy-surge-of-the-whole-day, and he used it to find just the right spot in the sun to plop down for his daily nap.
I guess if I carried 70 pounds and a massi ..read more

Doodle takes “Best Christmas Spirit” award in the 2002 Gaslamp Pet Parade. Photo (c): Diana Cavagnero
The Gaslamp Pet Parade was a blast this year, just days before Christmas. Doodle rode his surf wagon down the streets of San Diego, repping his home beach, Dog Beach in OB. I was his chauffeur, pulling the surf wagon. We met so many crazy dog people!

Awww, that big ‘ol happy/sad sweet boy basset face.
It always makes me smile.
My dearly departed Elvis. King of the beach. If you went, he went.
I have to-go dogs. You probably do, too.
Grocery stores - beaches - airplanes - cab over campers - a tent on the beach.
Whether you’re an outdoors woman or dude, you have a built-in partner along the way. Along with your human partners and human kids!
Windsurfing is our first passion as Ayers family surf dogs.
My three dogs sons, Elvis, Dude and Doodle, windsurf with me in the Columbia River Gorge. Now, it’s just Doodle and I. Here’s the crew…

OB Law license plate on my bookshelf. The actual one used in the TV show. Photo: (c) Barb Ayers, DogDiary.org
Ah, the good old days! Of television. Graphic arts. And Ocean Beach, my old home town. OB - home of Dog Beach.
Just found this on YouTube - an old episode of OB Law! One tongue-in-cheek moment on the KFMB TV series San Diego At Large.
In my career in the 80’s as Assoc. Art Director at Channel 8, I made this OB license plate prop and many other graphics for the locals-only TV series.
I also air-brushed a bra on top of the San Onofre nuke “boobs” for the show.
The show starred Larry Him ..read more
