In this 7th episode, I’ll share an 8th-note triplet drum fill based on a defined sticking pattern. The key to mastering this idea is to memorize the sticking: LRR LRL. So, we start applying the sticking in an 8th note triplet subdivision on the snare, possibly playing the bass drum or hi-hat in quarter notes. Once comfortable, we move the “RR” diddles on the rack tom and the last two notes “RL” on the floor tom. The second idea is similar to the first one. It consists of replacing the snare in the second part with the rack tom. Here is my demonstration of the two ideas in a half-time shuffle ..read more

I’m glad and proud to share my new album A Place for Dreamers (Timeless Music Records), available everywhere from November 30. In the last two years, I worked hard to compose, produce, and mix a concept album of 14 tracks for 56 minutes. The entire album is conceived as a conceptual work with recurring themes and a cyclical structure (as suggested by the colors of YouTube videos), with the last ambient track “Endless” connecting with the first “Prelude.” Exploration, self-discovery, isolation, boundless imagination, and dreams are some of the album’s themes, exploring various styles ..read more

A Fill for Every Season #6
Francis' Drumming Blog

In this sixth episode, I’ll share a massive 8th-note triplet linear drum fill. The idea is similar to the drum fill of the second episode of this series; both are interchangeable and can be combined. As indicated in the notation below, the linear approach occurs between the floor tom, snare, bass drum, and rack tom. The key to mastering this fill is to start slow and interiorize the sticking, which uses doubles and diddles instead of alternate sticking. As a further study, try to play the left foot hi-hat in quarter notes or on 2 and 4. In the following video, I demonstrate the drum fill at t ..read more
