Kinda long post! I'm 54, sis is 48 w/ DS. We live in Seattle. Sis and our mother live w/ me and my kids (20 and 18). Since Jan 2023, sis attends a day center 2x/week. Since March she's been doing this weird thing where she grabs the hand rail and doesn't want to let go to go into the center. She used to march right up to the door and let herself in. Now she hugs the wall, the rail and grabs onto anyone or anything. Today for the first time EVER, she refused to go inside Target and wanted to wait in the car. She LOVES Target. She got out of the car and asked for a walker, which she doesn't hav ..read more

Hello, I have a little child with Down Syndrome that I love so much. He's almost 2 years old. For the moment, he's not walking but next year, We're planning to move to a Penthouse appartment on the last floor of a building. The appartment is currently in construction. How can I secure the appartment to not put him in danger ? We have many children and grandchildren entering and going out the appartment all the time and I'm very afraid to see him leaving the appartment alone or try to climb the barriers. My friends have many problems with their down child doing that. What kind of barriers I ne ..read more

Does anyone have first hand information about this camp? They hold multiple sessions in different states/ cities. My son was accepted as a Partner (w/o DS) and he is getting excited and learning more about DS every day. Looking for 1st hand accounts from any perspective, as well as insights on how things operate, what prep my son might benefit from ahead of time. I have done multiple searches but can’t track anything down. submitted by /u/67_MGBGT [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

My sister is eight years old and was diagnosed with down syndrome when she was one or two. She is now eight and is still not potty tained, is overweight for her age, and is doing stuff like covering the walls in poop often.I feel worried for my sister and want her to be able to live independently whens she grows up. I've tried to talk to my parents about my sister but they've just written it off and sais she will be fine.I feel like they don't care to punish her or take her to behavior therapy and I feel like I'm going to have to take care of her when I become a adult. Should I be worried or ..read more
