Hi I hope this is ok to ask here. If not I apologize in advance and I will delete the post. I am a parent and I have never had childcare. I’ve been lucky with working from home and family and working different hours then my husband. I’m now required to be in office 2 days a week. Our second car recently went out and is not repairable. Now the question - our neighbor across the street runs an at home daycare. I see her doing drop off and pick up at my 10 year olds school. Would it be inappropriate to ask if she’d be willing to let my daughter ride to and from with them 2 days a week? If I do d ..read more

Suggested Pay

I am babysitting for a family this summer! The mom asked me this: What would be your day and weekly rate? We probably don’t need someone every single day because I only work 3 days a week and they go to their moms some days too so it’s rare we would need someone all day every single day. And some day we may just need someone for a few hours so I can run errands and go to the gym or go to meetings and stuff. What would you guys suggest I say for a pay rate? I am new to babysitting (I normally just dog sit) and I’m not sure what’s acceptable!! submitted by /u/seaofreaders [visit reddit] [comme ..read more

So I have a client that I have worked for before and she needs help for a day but here’s the thing she wants me to come at 7:30-2 and then come back at 7-9 which is about 8-9 plus driving and she also lives 40 mins away from me and I just can’t justify going back twice and not including gas in the price. Am I wrong? If not how much should I be charging for a day like that. Tia submitted by /u/Princesssaaaa5 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is a flat rate of 300 too much for an over night?

To start, I’m currently an infant teacher at a childcare center in our area, have worked in childcare for 4 years and am infant/toddler/preschool certified, have an associates degree in early childhood education, am 22, and have been babysitting for as long as I’ve been in childcare. Other context would be we are I. A HCOL area, but not in a major city. Just a somewhat expensive suburb. I charge 20 for one kid, though when I started babysitting I started at 15. The only family I still work for when I charged this is my first ever babysitting family. Started watching their daughter when she wa ..read more

Okay so basically every couple of weeks she’ll text me to ask if I’m available that weekend. Usually the day before she wants me so a lot of the times I’m not. She’ll then ask when I am and when I tell her she’ll leave me on read. I thought this was odd until today when I knew it was odd. She texted me to ask if I was available tmr night. It’s a school night and she wanted me to stay out until 2am so I said no because I have an important exam the next day. Then she asked if I was available for the Thursday for that time. I again said no because it’s a school night and my parentss don’t want m ..read more

References?

I have a lot of people ask me for references and I feel bad cause I often ask the same people I’ve babysat for if I can put their number down and often the job doesn’t even end up working out. Does anyone have the past families they’ve worked for send a note that I can use repeatedly as a reference? It’s just frustrating many people want them upfront and when the schedule doesn’t work out I’ve just wasted the time of my old employer by making them have a whole call with this random person. I definitely understand why people want references I just wish they’d only ask when they’re serious abou ..read more

My sister had been there for me for so long but it’s really stressful because she wants me to always watch her kids when I have less stuff to do or nothing to do. On top of that she doesn’t want me leaving early if I have an appointment, and she gets upset if I say no. Even tries to guilt trip me like I’m obligated to do it. Wheww when I go there I feel like a maid because as I’m watching both kids I have to worry about cleaning. It is a lot to clean sometimes my people have these things were kids take cares of other kids and not live their lives. She even goes as far as saying I should move ..read more

What do I do during babysitting??

I’ve been babysitting a nine year old. He’s super sweet but he does have autism. The way our regular day to day babysitting is may look different but I feel weird about it. I only babysit on days off of school since his parents both work on those days and I happen to have a flexible schedule. I babysit 7 am to 4:30 pm. Our babysitting routine is usually grab McDonald’s for lunch and then go to a park. Practically everything in between we literally just watch the most boring tv. Is this normal? I feel like I should be doing more but I genuinely don’t know what I should be doing. submitted by ..read more
