Hey, I’m going through the recruitment process for the HRP, and I was wondering if anyone has gone through it recently? It seems like training is not paid for and you are required to pay 10k for tuition for their 38 week program. I heard there are instances that the department may pay for? Just curious too if anyone has any tips or things you wish to know before going in? I’m going through a career change at the moment. I’m 32m with a small family and a second child in the way. My father was a police officer so I have somewhat of an understanding of the lifestyle of being a police officer. s ..read more

I thinking of going to college. I want to get a Criminal Justice degree and Minor in Languages. I am currently learning Spanish and ASL. How exactly will this all benefit me as a police officer? Will this help me get hired over other people who dont have that education? Or should I go with a different degree. I just want the best chance of being a good officer and having more oppurtunites presented to me. I got accepted into a Police Explorer program not to long ago. Working with officers has made my motivation to become one so much greater! Any advice will be helpful, thank you! submitted b ..read more

Raid damage- who's responsible?

So there was a raid in my town a little while ago. I was working a few days after and was talking to the landlord of the apartment that was raided. The house is 2 apartments, upstairs and downstairs. He said that they took apart the whole toilet looking for stuff (they did find drugs, but not in or near the toilet), and ended up flooding the DOWNSTAIRS apartment, which was not a part of the raid at all. So I know that they're not responsible for damage caused during the raid. But are the police responsible for damage that was caused to the OTHER, unrelated apartment? Or are the tenants of the ..read more

18y/o, what credentials should I pursue to become a state trooper?

I’m 18 years old, soon to be in college and my goal is to become a state trooper afterwards. I’m wondering what steps I should take to give myself a better shot at landing a position on the force after I graduate college. I haven’t selected a college major yet, but I’m thinking about majoring in something psychology or business related. Should I instead pursue a criminal justice degree? I’m also thinking about enlisting in the national guard reserve as I know military veterans are preferred. I may also work part time as a security guard. So what are my chances of landing a spot on the Washing ..read more

Probably a stupid question

As stated, I’m probably dumb. But is there any reason why on some cruisers you can see a visible siren box but on others you can’t? Just curious as to where they’re mounted at since they’re not visible on a push bar or the bumper submitted by /u/zach06080 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

As a 30 m truck driver for 10 years and looking for a career change so I can put down roots somewhere. What's is it like being a cop and is the pay and benefits on a long term setting getting better or worse. I live in a semi rural area the biggest city near me is springfield,mo and that's the department I'm thinking about since it seems like they send you to school. Also is police vs sheriff department which would be better on a career base. submitted by /u/Dwallace-69 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Reserve Police Officers

Hello everyone, I am been trying to decide between becoming a reserve police officer and working as an aviation technician, or just doing police work full time. Wondering if anyone could share their knowledge and/or experiences on what being a reserve officer is like. Biggest questions being, are you always shadowing another officer, or do you sometimes work by yourself on the road. Do most departments allow you to volunteer to come in more frequently or do they limit you to a once a month basis? Serious answers only please, any useful information is appreciated. Thank you all and have a grea ..read more
