Our wonderful employees have been working overtime putting the silk I just painted onto bobbins. It is a lot of work. So a big thank you to everyone for getting this done in record time. We have a bunch of new silk colors in the original silk. The Gima silk (aka straw silk) will be put on bobbins once the silk arrives some time this week and should be available for sale end of next week. While you wait for the Gima that jump into all the silk colors we have added and feast your eyes. Click on the banner on the Mirrix homepage: www.mirrixlooms.com to find your favorite color schemes. Synesthesia and an Interior World of Color
Mirrix Tapestry & Bead Looms
by Claudia Chase

The reason I cannot pick a color I love best is because for me the whole world is a riot of color and no one color ever stands out as my favorite. But combinations of colors, especially those that blend and gently or dramatically embrace one another, are my favorites. But there are a lot of them. For example, salmon and a certain green sends me into this soft but exciting place. And then there is a green falling into a mild orange and then sucked into a magenta. Oh my, that sends me somewhere nice.  Synesthesia is a “perceptual phenomenon in which stimulation of one sensor ..read more

Sari Silk
Mirrix Tapestry & Bead Looms
by Claudia Chase

Someone got the bright idea to recycle silk saris into a sort of yarn. The saris are stripped and then sometimes sewn together. I discovered this material quite some years ago and have been using it here and there ever since.  They are very suitable for weft-faced weaving. I often use a combination of weaving and knotting to great effect. I have made little pouches and large purses which wear extremely well. It is always fun to change up your materials to stretch the limits of weft-faced weaving and tapestry. We have added some of this exciting silk to our store in two different color ..read more

Chloe Comb Switch
Mirrix Tapestry & Bead Looms
by Sandy Sternard

Previously, the combs for the Chloe Pocket Loom were tumbled for smoothness. This worked well, except some were breaking during this process. This did not affect any combs that were sold, but it was a waste issue for us that required some changes to be made to the process. We are now powder-coating the combs. Since the powder-coating made the combs slippery, we also added a ten degrees angle so the warp does not slide off. These combs are a little bit more expensive than the previous ones. In the future, we will be switching the 5” Chloe Looms to the new combs as well.  Old and new Chloe ..read more

How to Weave a Simple Tapestry
Mirrix Tapestry & Bead Looms
by Elena Zuyok
1M ago
Recently a teacher I know started weaving a tapestry with her class and has come across some questions about the process as the project has developed. It made me realize that resources to help someone weave a very simple tapestry can be difficult to find. A quick Internet search reveals many tutorials that leave out important tapestry fundamentals which would likely leave the reader with  more questions than answers and result in a less-than-perfect final project. On the other hand, there are many wonderful tapestry resources out there that might seem a bit intimidating for someone j ..read more

Once in a while a Mirrix shedding device may develop a squeaking sound when you change the shed. If this happens there are a few household items you can use to fix the problem: Coconut Oil Olive Oil Chapstick Bees Wax Vegetable Oil Petroleum Jelly Simply put a very small amount of any of these items on the curve of your wooden clip until the squeaking sound disappears. Note that you may notice a change in the color of the wood or copper after doing this.  Hope this gets your squeak out. Happy Weaving ..read more
