Sue and I have been shooting on location for restaurants a lot lately and perhaps some of you are curious what we pack. If I could, I’d take my whole studio, but obviously that’s not possible! Also, my arm strength is not my best quality. (Though I’m pretty good at lifting 16 ounces. eh hem. Anyway…) All that being said, there are certain things we would never leave without. Here are is that list: 1) my gear bag, which contains: my camera Nikon D750, backup camera body (a must! You never know), my laptop, all my lenses (24-70, 100 macro, 50mm, 35mm, 85mm), a gray card (love that mixed lighti ..read more

Chef Neb getting in on the styling action! When Chef Neb, former chef of the Plaza Hotel and the Pierre in NYC, contacted us to work on a cookbook with him, we jumped at the chance. This wasn’t going to be your run-of-the-mill cookbook, but one filled with the most incredible Ethiopian recipes imaginable. Neb was born and raised there and these dishes represent everything that is wonderful about Ethiopian cuisine. From creating the look and feel of the book with styling, propping, and color palette, to shooting each dish with such precise plating and lighting to make our chef happy, the entir ..read more

What you see here is a test shot done on one of the very first days in OUR NEW STUDIO in South Orange! Sue and I wanted to test some things, get comfortable in the space, and see how it feels to move around and do what we do. And guess what? IT WAS AMAZING. We can’t tell you how excited we are to be here. We moved in in June and have been busy, busy, busy ever since (hence the late announcement!!) So, if you’re in the neighborhood, please take a moment and stop by! We even have a terrific little outdoor space that you better believe we’ll be turning into impromptu cocktail parties and the end ..read more

Staying in

For those of you who know me, you know that I spend a lot of time in the woods. It’s the place I go to find calm, to breathe, to think, and to not think. As a friend said recently, it’s her church and I would say the same. Now that my local trails are closed, I’m trying to find my center in other ways. I’m not setting out to accomplish anything. I don’t have a list of goals. Instead, I’m spending time with my kids, wandering around my house, accomplishing nothing really, aside from doing all I can to maintain my center. I’ve found little things- like watering my plants, that give me all the s ..read more

Always a student- now with Rouxbe cooking school

I’m one of those people who loves to learn. If I could, I’d be forever in college, taking any class I wanted. But, alas, I need to work and pay the bills. However, I had been eyeing the online cooking school, Rouxbe’s professional plant-based certification course for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger early winter. It’s incredible because it is completely online and you have six months to complete the course, which makes it a great option for working folks who need to complete it in their own time. Throughout, I’ve had to study and take lots of quizzes, create dishes, submit my ph ..read more

Flow, also known as the 'zone', is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity (source: Wikipedia) This was most definitely the case while working with the incredible people behind Ome Catering. To watch their process, to see how their gorgeous dishes came together, to be a part of the focused calm we witnessed while creating pieces of art with food, was a very special opportunity for us. We are extremely proud of the work we created in collaboration wit ..read more

On top of spaghetti (and the importance of a food stylist!)

We love it when local teams come together to create great new work. Sue and I had the pleasure of working on packaging for MamaMancini’s meatballs with the incredible website, branding, and marketing team 4 Elbows. We laughed, we cried, and in the end, created beautiful images for their brand. And see all those beautiful swirls of spaghetti? That’s the wonderful Susan von Brachel’s work right there. In food photography, working with a food stylist is like winning the lottery. Not only is she an incredible business partner, but she’s insanely talented as well. We were just lucky enough to have ..read more

I know I’m not the only one who’s excited about our new addition in Millburn, NJ. Liv Breads has bursted on to the breakfast and lunch scene here and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Sue and I had the pleasure of spending a (very) early morning with them to photograph what happens before most people wake up in the morning. It was such a treat to get a glimpse into the process on how they bake their natural sourdoughs (with a 30 hour rise!) using only the best ingredients available. But not only are their breads outstanding, their lunch options and desserts are phenomenal as well (Their babka is ..read more

We were so excited to work with Danny and Francesca, a lovely couple out of Tacoma, Washington on a website for their new business, Incramint. Like us a few years ago, they were taking a risk and starting a business following a passion. We immediately connected to the excitement they had for their new adventure ahead and definitely wanted to do everything we could to make their product shine so they could be a success! Danny and Francesca developed an MCT Oil Powder after realizing that their new diet greatly affected their well being. What is MCT Oil? I’ll just let them tell you: MCTs  ..read more

All smiles all day. When the studio is filled with the sweetest smells imaginable and the cutest little cakes and cupcakes ever, it is a happy day. That's how we felt all day long during our great shoot with Splurge Bakery in Millburn. Have a birthday party you are planning? Do what I did for my son's party and order custom cookies (we got soccer ball cookies, which were also so reasonably priced, I should add!) Have a holiday coming up? Check out her Cake Buddies. So. Darn. Cute. And while you're there, don't miss grabbing some of their incredible pound cake. Just trust me on this one. Go ah ..read more
