I was definitely anxious at the starting gate - about to go for the longest run I’ve ever attempted. Though I felt confident I’d finish, I didn’t know what to expect in-between. Leading up to the race, the more worried I got to the question “What if I hit that wall?” or I even had one guy tell me I might die running that long. After months of training alone in the heat of Texas summer, I finally did it. I set a new PR. Yes, it was a “downhill” marathon and many thought it was easy, including myself, but Saturday afternoon we went to take a look at the course and soon realized it was going to be fight. Why? Well, first of all, it was going to be warmer than usual on race day, but the other issue was going to be the descending and climbing.
