Looking for a quote...

Hi folks! I'm looking for a quote, that I only partially remember from my old theology teacher, and has been in my heart for this week. I wonder if something like this quote might sound familiar to you, and you can point me in the right direction. The famous Matthew 5:3 quote, "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven" was explained by a theologian (I want to say Howard Thurman, but I could be mistaken), and the quote I'm looking for was something like, "We have to come to Christ and come to practice so poor in spirit, that we don't even have our own concept of God ..read more

I just failed my first subject and I'm a bit confused

I'm doing a MA in theological studies and literally just failed my first ever subject where the final assessment was an essay asking us to articulate our own theological methods. It wasn't nice seeing how bad the score was but it didn't seem to be affecting me much because I truly didn't put in too much efforts into the assignment, and even after finishing the assignment I was still confused about the term "theological method", plus writing in-depth academic essays are something completely foreign to me (my undergrad is in Nursing). My real confusion is that whether it's a sign that I should ..read more

If God provides everything, does he also provide misfortunes (illnesses, catastrophes)? If so, why should we thank him when he himself has provided everything? Isn't that incoherent?

Was Satan talking to both?

I recently heard that the original translations of Satan trying to tempt Eve to eat the fruit said something to the effect of “you both” or for southerners “Y’all”. The person saying this was getting to the point that placing the blame on Eve was foolish because (based on this translation) it was the both of them. Does anyone know if this is true or where it comes from? submitted by /u/punkpunch [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

AI art, Christianity and sacrilege?

Let me start this by saying I'm not a theologist, christian or very much interested in religion in general so forgive me if I misuse terms or can't express this question properly. I'm an archaeologist and an artist and I have a question regarding the christian or rather biblical ethics of AI generated images, specifically those in biblical nature. I'm seeing a lot of facebook posts featuring AI art with christian imagery, everything from 'canon' events in the bible to nonsensical action sequences with Jesus' face plastered in (sometimes several times). A lot of these images seem to invoke som ..read more

Hello beautiful people of Reddit, I am a 35 year-old woman who has an M.A. in Literature. In recent years, I have had a great interest in Theology and Christian studies. I really want to do a Ph.D in Theology but I am afraid I will waste my money and end up not finding an appropriate job in this field. Please advise me on whether I should follow my passion or just keep it as a hobby? Thank you very much ツ submitted by /u/Demerzel_99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Does Ephesians 2 support replacement theology or not?

To me, Ephesians 2:11-22 lends support to supercessionism or replacement theology. This texts states gentiles are made “fellow citizens”, and implies that the Gentiles are no longer “strangers to the covenants of promise”. ”Therefore, remember that formerly you—the GENTILES in the flesh, who are called “Uncircumcision” by the so-called “Circumcision,” which is performed in the flesh by human hands— remember that you were at that time without Christ, ALIENATED FROM THE CITIZENSHIP OF ISRAEL, and STRANGERS TO THE COVENANTS OF PROMISE, having no hope and without God in the world. But now in Chri ..read more
