When you think of iconic American road trips, Oregon might not be the first state that comes to mind. But why not take the ‘road trip’ less traveled – ha…see what I did there? This Oregon road trip is a must for anyone looking for breathtaking scenery, small towns, and outdoor adventure – all with the backdrop of fewer people. Cycling Down the Gotthard Pass: Taking the Tremola Road Less Traveled

Is it called biking if all you do is squeeze the brake and not peddle? That’s what I kept thinking to myself the entire time as I was cycling down the Gotthard Pass on old Tremola Road in Switzerland. Granted, I still had to turn (there was lots of turning) and keep the bike upright as I traversed the serpentine cobblestone road, so it must count as biking, I thought. Regardless of if I call it biking, it was an immense amount of fun. And the best part – anyone can bike down Tremola Road – no training necessary! Not only was it an adventure that few people take on, but cycling down the pass wa ..read more

Year in Review Travel Videos
Ottsworld Unique Travel Experiences

For the last 16 years I’ve been creating holiday wrap up videos in place of sending holiday cards. This is one tradition I’ve been able to keep up since I started traveling in 2006. It’s great to have all of my year in review travel videos all in the same place! Each year I have to sit and relearn how to use the damn video editing software – which normally leads to me drinking a bit too much eggnog.  But hey – the eggnog and the millions of times I’ve listened to the holiday soundtrack while trying to edit normally puts me in the holiday spirit.  Woohoo Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Y ..read more

Quick…when I say Wisconsin – what comes to mind for you? For me, it conjures up images of rolling hills, cheese, cows, football, supper clubs, and……booze. Yes – that might not be what Wisconsin wants to be known for, but I can’t help it, when I think of Wisconsin, I think of cocktails. For some weird reason, Wisconsin has a lot of quirky traditions when it comes to cocktails, more than I’ve experienced in any other state. On my last trip to Madison, I went on a quest to find 4 of my favorite quintessential Wisconsin cocktails and learn more about them; specifically, how did they become so stee ..read more

Imagine a scene from Lord Of The Rings with an idyllic lake surrounded by soaring mountains. The lush greens of the forested slopes offset the blue water and sky. Now put a modern town at the north end of that lake, and you have Lucerne, Switzerland. With the mix of water and mountains, it shouldn’t come as any surprise that Lake Lucerne is not only the ultimate outdoor destination in Switzerland but also one of the best in all of Europe. Just about all mountain and water sports are available in the area. From hiking the peaks and ridgelines to paddling the sparkling water, you have a world o ..read more

Cycling PEI: Confederation Trail and National Parks Biking Tour

Before we even got to the start of the famed Confederation Trail biking route, I had my eye on the lobster shack at Victoria By the Sea. I love biking; this new-to-me activity has won me over and I’m excited to explore new destinations by bike. However, I REALLY love lobster, and the thought of spending 6 days cycling PEI and being able to eat lobster every day had me over the moon. Prince Edward Island is made for seafood lovers and bikers…and I am both. Where is PEI? Welcome to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province, located on the Atlantic coast. It may be small in size, but it’s ..read more

It’s summer! Do you feel it…the pull to be outside as much as we can? In Denver Colorado where we have sun 300 days a year (our best-kept not-so-secret), it’s the perfect region for outdoor dining, drinking, games, markets, and events. The front range comes alive as restaurants and bars sweep off their patios, and set up their chairs, tables, corn hole, bocce ball, and stages. It’s the opening of patio season around Colorado’s front range; patios in Denver – here we come! This is the time of year I find myself asking friends, “where can we go and sit outside?”. It’s the time to head to Denver ..read more

What to expect on a Galapagos Cruise to the Eastern Islands
Ottsworld Unique Travel Experiences

I stepped from the zodiac raft to the cement jetty on the small Island of Plaza Sur; I had finally made it to the Galapagos Islands. I stood there for a moment soaking it in, looking around at the sea lions and iguanas unphased by my presence. Birds circled us overhead. The sun was low in the sky and the barren island was glowing in a soft buttery yellow light. In the distance I stared at the silhouettes of unusual looking cactus. My first thought was, this is my kind of place; remote, natural, unique…so why did I wait so long to finally come on a Galapagos cruise? But at the same time – I’m a ..read more

Sometimes I think I’ve seen it all when it comes to travel…and then I go to a destination that blows my mind and makes me realize that I have a lot yet to see! My Galapagos Islands holiday was full of learning opportunities, but most of all it was full of awe and joy. How could it not be – the Islands and wildlife are stunning. It’s like being inside an episode of Planet Earth. I can’t believe I waited so long to visit the Galapagos Islands! After years of people telling me I should go there, I finally pulled the trigger on the Galapagos in November of 2021 – a time when the world was slowly s ..read more

Mashpi Lodge – Ecuador’s Premier Lodge Changing Lives and the Planet

Trees towered above our vehicle in layers upon layers of green, birds swooped around us, and big drops of water fell down on our windshield with a heavy splash. As if someone snapped their fingers…just like that…I was in the middle of a rainforest. Just moments before we were driving through wide-open farm land; it’s as if we had crossed some magic line and things changed in an instant. Little did I know, but this was the start of my eco education. I sat in awe as we descended into a cloud towards the famous Mashpi Lodge and Reserve. There was a magic line – the boundary of the reserve. One si ..read more
