There are some lovely traditions surrounding Eid which I love! Getting new gorgeous outfits, putting on ittar (perfume), receiving Eidee (gift money), eating delicious foods and finally getting henna!
We all get ourselves adorned with mehendhi, young and old! For me this Eid season was fantastic, i did henna for everyone for three days consecutively. In the end I was exhausted but I had so much fun because I LOVE doing mehndi!
Here are some pictures, sorry there aren't so many because I was so lost in doing the henna and barely can ever remember to take pics! Here are a few favorites.

A.a everyone! Henna season is here... Eid, weddings and summer parties! I wanted to ask everyone to be extra diligent with the henna cones you are using. Please be very careful as most people unfortunately still use store bought henna in our community. Store bought henna has many dangers, they can be filled with camphor, kerosene (instead of safe essential oils), PPD and other harsh artificial dyes which can leave you with an itch at best or a full blown blistered reaction that can require hospitalization. Real organic henna made from leaves has a shelf life of 6 days and will stop staining th ..read more

I had the wonderful opportunity to henna these wonderful young ladies for their graduation celebration party. Henna was a super hit and everyone enjoyed getting on some henna bling.
They attended an all girls high school, and each girl I asked raved about her experience there! Makes me want to consider an all girls school for my daughter. They recommended it because they said there was a strong sisterhood they felt between themselves. I am all for girl power and a strong believer in sisterhood.
Check out the fun pics from their graduation henna party ..read more

A month ago I was invited by a lovely lady who sells incredibly beautiful jewelry to do henna at her jewelry party. The jewelry was breathtaking, apparently inspired by Jaipur, India. So henna totally made sense!
It was a total blast and such a well organized party. The ladies snacked and browsed around looking at, trying out and ordering their favorite pieces while some got henna done. It was such a calm and relaxing and fun ladies hang out.
Check out the amazing pics below! Loads of glitter and gems to match the exquisite bling around them.

Now everyone knows how hectic and crazy busy a wedding can be, especially the last days upto the wedding when the dholkis, mehndi parties and sangeet begin.
But there is a special time awaiting all brides that gives them a much needed break... the henna application time. It forces the bride to just sit, and relax, get her henna done, get fed by hand by her loved ones, even get her itch scratched away by someone else.
She is expected to do nothing, just sit then sleep all night, and in the morning get ready after her long beauty sleep.
But even after the wedding, until her henna fades the bride ..read more

Here is a step by step pictorial of how to sieve henna to make the perfect paste.
First off, why is it so important? If you have ever used a mehndi cone that keeps getting clogged at the tip, you know how frustrating it can be. It hugely impacts the neatness and quality of your work. Even the super-sifted brand of henna will still need to be sieved / sifted / strained once more if you wish to do very fine work. Of course, if that is not your intention you can skip this step and just cut the hole of your cone a little bigger. But I si ..read more

A few days ago i was invited by my friend to do henna for a Bollywood themed fundraiser for her sons school. She organized an entertaining ladies night for a large group of her non-Indian colleagues. Let me tell you, it was a blast!
She brought her own saris (she is the only one I know who owns such a huge sari collection from my generation), and got her stunning jewelry pieces to share, and snack food, chai and me... her henna artist!
She wrapped the ladies in the saris (incredible skills required here) and then i decorated their hands with henna. We snacked, had chai and listened to bollywoo ..read more

Throw yourself a fun Forty and Fabulous party with your bestie who is also turning 40 with you! Make it a Moroccan themed party and host it at an exotic restaurant and hire a henna artist to jazz it up, while you belly dance away your worries!
This formula totally worked. I was invited to be the henna artist at this gorgeous event at the Menara Moroccan Restaurant. They had gorgeous lanterns and big silky pillows, and low carved metal tables inside. As soon as you enter you are greeted with a long table of a mouth-watering Moroccan feast. The food was so amazing I ha ..read more
