The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs The Lost and Found Bookshop by Susan Wiggs highlights many aspects of a good Women’s Fiction novel. The key aspect being: Character Growth. It’s a story about Natalie, and the many hurdles and obstacles of her own life that she must jump over in order to find her true self. Kind of a control freak over herself, Natalie resents the carefree attitude of her mother. Her solid job, her steady paycheck, may be causing her to be unhappy, but for her, it’s a sacrifice. “Truth be told, she couldn’t stand the job, either, but that was not the point. Mini Reviews: Manga Love Edition: Not Your Idol Vol. 1 & Prince Freya Vol. 1

Not Your Idol Vol. 1 by Aoi Makino Not Your Idol was definitely a great read. Fast paced and full of suspense. Loved the premise of the teen pop idol gone incognito because of an assault. Karen disguises herself as a boy just to remain out of the public eye and away from her attacker. She loses touch of herself and is very vulnerable. There’s an overall theme of sexual harassment throughout the story line and feels more realistic. But the suspense and creepiness is what got me. Very different than my usual Manga reads and this one kept me on the edge of my seat. Definitely will read the next ..read more

Mini Review: The Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel by Michael Moreci

The Lost Carnival: A Dick Grayson Graphic Novel by Michael Moreci First of all I’d like to say that what really drew me to this Graphic Novel was the amazing cover. I’m totally digging the Art Deco feel. Secondly, I found the premise of the story interesting. We all know about how Dick Grayson becomes Robin, but not much about his life before the events that would change his life forever. The story does not touch on that aspect at all. I think the author, Michael Moreci, did a great job capturing Dick Grayson’s personality. The young and headstrong trapeze artist that rebels against his pare ..read more

Mini Review: First Comes Scandal by Julia Quinn

First Comes Scandal by Julia Quinn What’s not to love about a Julia Quinn novel? Especially during these hard times, one can always rely on Historical Romances for cheering up. First Comes Scandal, is a perfect example of a fun, fast read. Personally, I haven’t read all of the Bridgertons’ books, so I’m not caught up. But since this is a prequel, and the fact that each book is basically it’s own story, I found that I did not have to be up to date on anything. I enjoyed it for what it was worth. Banter is everything in Julia Quinn’s writing and I always have that aspect to look forward to. I h ..read more

Mini Review: The German Heiress by Anika Scott

The German Heiress by Anika Scott The German Heiress kept me on the edge of my seat from page 1. I felt engrossed in the story as soon as Clara AKA Margaret Müller, is introduced. Her character might come off as desperate, but she definitely shines overall with her resolve and development. The story had constant movement. The overall drive in Clara, kept going throughout the novel. Her wish to find her friend Elisa. But obstacles are constantly in her way. It’s those obstacles that make the story so riveting and unputdownable. Obstacle #1: Her past. As “the Iron Fräulein.” (Don’t worry, sh ..read more

The Shape of Family by Shilpi Somaya Gowda Coming of Age Fiction is not typically a genre that I read. However, I decided to step outside my comfort zone with The Shape of Family and I’m really pleased that I did. This isn’t a light read. Oh no. This is gut wrenching, go for the feels type read. It will bring up all of your old feelings of insecurities growing up, the family you may or may not have gotten a long with, and all the bad decisions that you may have made. It will hurt. To say that this story gripped me is an understatement. It alternates POV every chapter, with each family mem ..read more

Top Ten Tuesday: Books With Single-Word Titles

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.   This weeks’ theme, Books With Single-Word Titles, seemed a little bit difficult. (A little bit harder than last weeks topic: Characters I’d Follow On Social Media ). However, thanks to my Goodreads TBR shelf, I was able to come up with the 10 books.   Top 10 Tuesday: Books With Single-Word Titles    Harleen by Stjepan Šejić–Added this so I can remember it.
