I can't complain. Winter wasn't too bad this year. We only had a few snowstorms and the temperatures were tolerable. But still, I am sick of boots and winter coats! Bring on the sunshine and sandals please! If you follow me on social media, you'll know that I was supposed to take a trip to Charleston, SC last week with another couple. But life being life, it didn't end up well. We drove and got as far as Richmond, VA when our friend started with a 103.7 fever (yikes!). Because we were all highly exposed, we decided to turn around and come home the next day. The good news is that we took out tr ..read more

Master Bedroom Decorating

Almost six years ago we moved into our new home after numerous construction issues. I had recently been diagnosed with leukemia, Uncommon Threads was a baby, and then the pandemic hit. Yep, it was a lot.  I had every intention of decorating the house and although I made some progress, most of the rooms are still unfinished.  Now that my cancer treatment has ended and I have more energy, I decided to tackle decorating, starting with the master bedroom.  When we moved in, my brother and his wife passed their gorgeous bed to us. I love the neutral silk headboard that makes a s ..read more

Getting Organized Is Life Changing!

Getting Organized is Life Changing! My kitchen and bathroom were a mess.  A serious mess.  As a style and beauty influencer, I receive boxes of products and clothes every day. It may sound like a good problem to have, but these items pile up quickly and create clutter.  On the other hand, I have no excuse for the kitchen. I mean, who needs 5 ladles and 22 mugs? Our kitchen pantry closet is small. And for a good-sized home, we lack cabinet space.  I thought I had a decent system going on, but it never lasted more than five seconds. With deep closet shelves, food was hard to ..read more

Hair Biology: Full & Vibrant Review for Hair Over 50

This post was sponsored by Hair Biology, but all opinions expressed are my own.  Dull lifeless hair?  Did you know that as we get older, our scalp's natural oil production can drop in half ? Both time and damage can cause frizz, flyaways, broken ends, and thinning hair. Everyone used to tell me how amazing my hair was.  Although I have always struggled with frizz and a crazy curl pattern, I had thick, healthy, and shiny hair.  Enter menopause, hormonal changes, and age...all of which have changed how my hair looks and feels (not in a good way).  At 61, my hair ha ..read more

Why You Need a Photoshoot

The past three years have been difficult. Between Covid, my compromised immune system, and chemo for leukemia, I've been pretty isolated.  Although I'm not depressed,  I have had many "down'' days. Just about everyone I know is back in action and living normally, but I still can't attend events, go to restaurants, or even meet friends inside without masks. It's a crazy way to live and I can't wait for better days ahead.  A few months ago, I got the word that my friend Carolyn and Elena, owners of Flyte.70 (an incredible make-up line) had nominated me for the 40 Over 40 Project ..read more

4 Ways to Become Fashion Fearless

Some links in this post may generate a small commission, but rest assured that I only post what I love! Does your blood pressure go up when you step out of your "style comfort zone"?  Well, you're not alone. In my many years of wardrobe styling I've found that women in midlife tend to develop fashion fears and insecurities that prevent them from trying new styles.  Does this sound a bit familiar? What will people think of me if I wear _____? My body isn't in shape, so I can't wear _____. I don't want to draw attention to myself with color. I'll look like I'm trying too hard. I'm to ..read more

What to Wear to an Infusion

Links in this post may generate a small commission, but I only post what I love. I know it may sound fluffy, but I like to look nice on infusion days. It lifts my spirits and helps me to feel stronger, empowered, and even normal in a way. I feel less like a cancer patient when I get dressed up a bit. Now I'm not talking about wearing sequins and stilettos, but what we wear can  have a positive impact on how we feel. When we look good, we feel good. It's real.  I've been going to Dana Farber Cancer Institute for the past four months for infusions to treat my leukemia, but not all in ..read more

Links may generate a small commission.  However, I only promote what I love. Remember that ad "Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't"?  Hint...it was for a candy bar. Well, sometimes you feel like a winter coat, and sometimes you don't! This long hooded cardigan is super warm and just perfect for days when I don't feel like wearing a heavy coat.   Franne Golde is a gorgeous clothing line that I recently discovered.  They gifted me a few pieces, including this fabulous St. Moritz Hooded Cardi. It's warm, cozy, comes in lots of colors, and is super styl ..read more

My 2022 Beauty Picks

Some of products in this post were gifted, and links may generate a small commission. However, all opinions expressed are my own.  As a style and beauty influencer, I test out TONS of products. There are so many fabulous products out there, but I do have favorites.  I'm very selective about what I post about, which is why you won't see me endorsing beauty products every few days. Paid or unpaid, I test everything out thoroughly and will only put my name behind the products that work well for me.   I made a video for social media, but the size of was too large for this blog ..read more
