I hope this sweater doesn't offend anyone, but I saw it in a boutique and it
summed things up for me.
What's Going on with Me?
I entered the new year with a clear vision: to tackle everything with energy and determination. I could already see myself crossing off items on my to-do list with ease. The plans were set—what a productive year it was going to be!
But here we are, halfway through January, and not a single item has been crossed off my list.
Here’s what I had planned:
Clean up the house, including the overly packed basement.
Do a deep purge of every closet, especially ..read more

As we transition our clothes from summer to fall, this is a reminder to also focus on your hair and skin. The summer months can be tough on both as the sun can bleach hair making it dry and brassy, and those pesky brown sun spots are so annoying! By the end of the summer there are enough spots on my face for a game of "connect the dots"! So as fall approaches, let's give our hair and skin a little extra TLC. I thought I'd ask the the experts at Salon Metta and Suite 103 Spa for their advice.

We're at that crazy time of the year when it's too warm to put away summer clothes, yet the weather will soon be turning chilly. It's already getting pretty cold at night here in Boston, despite 75 degree days.
It's not quite time to pull out heavy pieces, but then again, it's not the right time to put away summer either!
So what's a woman to do?
I generally don't make the full summer to fall wardrobe transition until late September, however I am starting to pull out layers such as jackets, sweaters, vests, and cardigans.
Many summer dresses and skirts can actually be worn all year ..read more

Toxic people.
Do you have some in your life?
I've had my fair share and recently got punched in the stomach (figuratively) by a few people who are very close to me.
After almost a year of therapy, I finally broke free. It wasn't easy, but I needed to disconnect for my own physical and mental health. Enough is enough.
This blog is a reflection of my own personal journey with the hope that it can help others going through similar situations. Of course always consult a practitioner if you are struggling.
I won't name names because my goal isn't to hurt anyone, but rather to share what ..read more

I want to share a special love story. My love story.
I married the first-time-around at a young age. I was just out of college, I'd been through a lot of trauma in my life, and I was looking for stability, love, and security. But I ended up with the opposite. No blame, but my ex and I were not a good match. The marriage was volatile, and although I tried to be the perfect wife, cooking, cleaning, and taking care of him, I was unfulfilled and miserable. Two wonderful children came along and I was even more determined to make it work.
But it didn't. It couldn't.

I can't complain. Winter wasn't too bad this year. We only had a few snowstorms and the temperatures were tolerable. But still, I am sick of boots and winter coats! Bring on the sunshine and sandals please!
If you follow me on social media, you'll know that I was supposed to take a trip to Charleston, SC last week with another couple. But life being life, it didn't end up well. We drove and got as far as Richmond, VA when our friend started with a 103.7 fever (yikes!). Because we were all highly exposed, we decided to turn around and come home the next day. The good news is that we took out tr ..read more

Almost six years ago we moved into our new home after numerous construction issues. I had recently been diagnosed with leukemia, Uncommon Threads was a baby, and then the pandemic hit. Yep, it was a lot. I had every intention of decorating the house and although I made some progress, most of the rooms are still unfinished.
Now that my cancer treatment has ended and I have more energy, I decided to tackle decorating, starting with the master bedroom.
When we moved in, my brother and his wife passed their gorgeous bed to us. I love the neutral silk headboard that makes a s ..read more

Getting Organized is Life Changing!
My kitchen and bathroom were a mess. A serious mess. As a style and beauty influencer, I receive boxes of products and clothes every day. It may sound like a good problem to have, but these items pile up quickly and create clutter. On the other hand, I have no excuse for the kitchen. I mean, who needs 5 ladles and 22 mugs?
Our kitchen pantry closet is small. And for a good-sized home, we lack cabinet space. I thought I had a decent system going on, but it never lasted more than five seconds. With deep closet shelves, food was hard to ..read more

This post was sponsored by Hair Biology, but all opinions expressed are my own.
Dull lifeless hair? Did you know that as we get older, our scalp's natural oil production can drop in half ? Both time and damage can cause frizz, flyaways, broken ends, and thinning hair.
Everyone used to tell me how amazing my hair was. Although I have always struggled with frizz and a crazy curl pattern, I had thick, healthy, and shiny hair. Enter menopause, hormonal changes, and age...all of which have changed how my hair looks and feels (not in a good way). At 61, my hair ha ..read more
