Friends of the Riot. Now we are all week into the 2nd week of our official Covid19 self Isolation I wanted to take the opportunity to write my first real post for the Riot RC website from a coach perspective, an athlete perspective, and a father and family man perspective. These are crazy and very unique times in all of our lives and the impact of the pandemic on our lives with the restrictions put in place, the danger to peoples lives and our poor old economy I can imagine is comparable to war times. Who would have thought any of this was possible just one month ago but here we are… Almost al ..read more

Last week I was invited to the Boardman Performance Centre down in Evesham with friend Jamie Pringle, who was doing some Wind Tunnel testing on Riot RC member Ruth Astle and asked if I wanted to join. Tomorrow I’ll begin putting in the work for the 2019 season starting off by just exercising for fun but I’m aiming to feel a little bit better everyday till I get to the point in a few weeks time where I actually start to ‘train’ with structure and ambition. I’m not going to lie, I needed every single day of this break, the disappointment of another bad experience in Hawaii hit me pretty hard and I’ll probably continue to take a few more days here and there up till Christmas.   Regardless of a ..read more

Why do I bother?

As I finish the last training block of the year and I pack up my bags here in San Diego with the last 5.5hrs flight to Hawaii looming I find myself with enough time on my hands to sit down with my own thoughts and I suddenly for the first time drift into a state of nervousness and I can’t help but wonder why I bother doing this to myself. I said to myself at the end of last year when I was reviewing my plans that I don’t want to make this trip unless I know I can be competitive. It’s a strain on my family, it’s very expensive and actually I can’t even see the fun side of it unless I’m really ..read more
