by Lauren M. For the past few years, It’s been a goal of mine to run a spring break marathon abroad. Last year, I ran the Rome marathon in Italy. It gives me something to look forward to during our winter months and keeps me running! This past training cycle was my first time using a coach. I hired Coach Christa with Experience Triathlon Coaching Services. I’m sure we all believe our schedules are busy, but I truly think mine is extra chaotic. Given this, I wasn’t sure how a more formal, structured training schedule would look, since I need to take it day-by-day sometimes and also be able to a ..read more

The outdoor riding season is almost here. Are you ready to change a flat? Do you have all the right supplies & tools? Join us at Spokes Wheaton for a tire changing clinic with ET head coach, Joe LoPresto. You can even bring your own bike and practice! “The information from the tire change clinic paid off for me very soon after the session. I had the dreaded double flat on a ride. Prior to the clinic, my ride would have been done. I was carrying only 1 tube and had the repair tools, but didn’t know how to use them. After seeing the demonstration I had the confidence to tackle fixing the fla ..read more

Whatever You are Going Through, Right Now is Your Ironman

by Christine K. Last fall, I completed an Ironman triathlon after six months of training almost every day. I placed second-to-last in an age group of nearly 40 athletes, finishing with less than half an hour to spare before the course cut off. This year, I ran a single 5K this year without training. I placed first in an age group of ten runners, maintaining a sub-9 minute pace while pushing my 2-year-old son in a stroller. Which race result brings me a greater sense of fulfillment? In a certain sense, I can say both, because completing an Ironman and living my best life as a single mom are ult ..read more

by Eric R. Anyone who has been in triathlon or any endurance sport has heard the phrase, “you can’t control the weather on race day,” or maybe you’ve also been told to, “expect the unexpected” during long distance races.  These phrases now take on more of a personal meaning for me after this season. My 2023 season began in June with an Olympic distance triathlon in Springfield, MO called “ConcerteMan,” named for the concrete company that was the original title sponsor.  This small, local race was well run and well supported, and one that I’d recommend.  I even met the race direc ..read more

by Tara G. Whenever I sign up for a race the thought of finishing last runs through my mind. Race days are uncontrollable in many ways, from the weather to what illness is going around you just hope at the starting line you are the best version of yourself on that day. My journey to completing a full ironman has been windier than anticipated and sometimes I’m challenged mentally to overcome that. After COVID pushed my race from 2020 > 2021, I went from training at 10:30 pace miles for long training runs to welcoming my 3rd baby 6 months before race day and barely breaking 12 min miles most ..read more
