‘Did you know they made a movie about…?’
I’ve screened “Dance First”, a new drama in theaters Aug. 9 and on digital Aug. 16. It stars Gabriel Byrne as writer Samuel Beckett (of “Waiting for Godot”). As you find out during the excellent film, the title “Dance First” is significant to Beckett’s life. But many people may not realize this is a Beckett […]

‘My Spy: The Eternal City’ Movie Review
“My Spy: The Eternal City” is the sequel to the 2020 action comedy “My Spy”, which was originally supposed to go to theaters and then Amazon acquired it for a Prime Video release early on in the COVID pandemic. I kinda like that film. Not amazing, but unique and entertaining enough, with Dave Bautista in his best movie role to date.
That’s the case once again with “The Eternal City”. Bautista is the (only real) reason to watch this “My Spy” follow-up. He’s comfortable, charismatic and confident in the role of J.J., guardian to Sophi ..read more

‘Faye’ Movie Review
Academy Award winning actress Faye Dunaway is the star of many iconic movies, including “Network”, “Bonnie and Clyde”, “Chinatown” and “Mommie Dearest”. As we see over the course of 90-minute documentary “Faye”, available on HBO and Max, she’s had a lot of great roles throughout her career. And you can tell in her storytelling, through the grit and confidence in her voice as she’s looking back on her life, that Dunaway has always been passionate about the craft of acting.
In the doc, directed by Laurent Bouzereau, Dunaway also addresses her “difficult ..read more

Will ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Outgross ‘Inside Out 2’?
“Deadpool and Wolverine” is expected to do blockbuster numbers at the box office once it opens in theaters on July 26th. But how high are we talking?
“Inside Out 2” is currently the highest grossing movie of the summer, with $550 million and counting domestically. Worldwide, the total is approaching $1.3 Billion. Incredible. It may be a little difficult for “D&W” to reach those levels and be crowned the victor of Summer 2024.
But just last summer, a major R-rated release earned close to $1 Billion worldwide — ev ..read more

‘Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’ Movie Review
Cue the music! It’s awesome that some classic tunes and a wild chase sequence kick-off “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” — Eddie Murphy’s highly successful return to one of the roles that made him an ’80s superstar. It’s been 40 years since the original installment (which I recently watched for the first time and really enjoyed) and 30 years since the largely panned “Beverly Hills Cop III”. This fourth chapter sees Axel Foley back in California to partner-up with his lawyer daughter Jane (played by Taylour Paige), whose involvement in a ..read more

‘A Quiet Place: Day One’ Movie Review
“A Quiet Place: Day One” is the latest installment in Paramount’s popular sci-fi action horror franchise. 2018’s “A Quiet Place”, starring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (with Krasinski also in the director’s chair) opened to $50 million, totaled $188 million domestically and earned Blunt the Best Supporting Actress SAG Award. “A Quiet Place: Part II” was supposed to be released in March 2020, but the COVID pandemic delayed it to May 2021, becoming the first film to cross the $100M mark in North America in over a year. (It totaled $16 ..read more
