Hi! Wondering if anyone can recount their experience with keeping bones/skulls in their fresh water tanks long term? I've been reading that there are sometimes ph concerns from calcium seeping into the tank but my main concern is the $200 skull disintegrating and collapsing in the water. Has anyone kept a skull in water long term, and did it melt in their tank?? Any problems with the water parameters?
The skulls I am looking at putting in are coyote and mainecoon skulls. I bought them from oddity markets, so I presume they've gotten the normal bleaching etc. I've had them for a couple years n ..read more

Crushed up charcoal and activated carbon dust as substrate, that's the starting point of this idea
I made planted tank with only very fine sand as the substrate before and it has been quite successful for a first try if you ask me.
I want to make a 70x70x70 cm cube, and use only jet black charcoal dust as substrate and burned wood as hardscape, maybe some red-orange roots sticking out. I'm also imagining stocking it with pure white fish, maybe swordtails or some kind of snake like loach.
