I'm planning to make a mobile port of the Caravan card game, same rules, same name but obviously different names and images for the card decks. Can it be sued as copyright/trademark infringement even if i don't use the name "Fallout", the vault-boy image nor any Fallout: New Vegas deck image? submitted by /u/Zhyrgal_zip [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I am facing a problem of trying to upload a clip from the extended fight scene of Maharaga vs sukuna. I am trying to use it for an amv that i have created but it keeps getting removed from copy right claims from Toho Co., Ltd(the company that published the blue ray dvd of jjk). This fight scene is all over on youtube so I was just wondering how they went about posting it. submitted by /u/I_ATE_TO_MANY_TOES [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Is PHILA copyrighted?

Hey everyone, I have a quick question for all of you copyright-knowers. I wanted to create something to sell that is Philly-centric and says the word PHILA on it. But, upon looking it up, it says in this link that the Sixers have it copyrighted: https://www.gerbenlaw.com/trademarks/nba/philadelphia-76ers/#78263800. I find it hard to comprehend that PHILA itself can be copyrighted because many places have logos that say PHILLA, PENNA and so on. It is literally half of a city name!!! I basically want to know if I could create something with the word PHILA on it and not get in trouble. I kno ..read more

I am in a choreography team that will be taking part of a show on May 4th for a Star Wars themed celebration. We have music, lightsabers, and fight demonstrations. I want to use Tom Kane’s voice as the narrator from the Clone Wars to begin our show but I don’t know anything about copyright law. The show will be televised but our group is not doing this for money, only to give a performance before a baseball game. submitted by /u/V8_Dipshit [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Using Unsplash photos on my fashion design website - is it okay?

Just wanting to double check... I'm building a website whilst creating my own collection and I don't have any photos yet. I've found some images of models wearing a garments that are free to use from Unsplash and will work for the time being - I just want to check it's okay for this type of website? I imagine there is a designer who has copyright over their designs - and although I wouldn't be selling their design, I'm wondering if this is okay? Or is it irrelevant and I only need the permission from the photographer? I will be offering alterations and custom-made designs btw submitted by /u ..read more

Can I write and publish a work with copyrighted IP if I don't sell it?

Suppose I write a story about an existing Intellectual Property, or IP. For the sake of argument, let's say I write a story about Batman. I then publish it online and put my name on it. Anyone can read it and the front page clearly says "this was written by John Johnsson". I don't charge any money for it. I just give it away for free. It can still benefit me indirectly, for instance by building my personal brand. Would this be illegal? submitted by /u/Bjorkfors111 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Can I use the Creative Commons license for my YouTube video if it uses a song with the YouTube Audio Library License?

The FAQ says all of the video needs to be owned by me. But do they differentiate between video and audio? YouTube studio isn't warning me if I change to the Creative Commons license for a video that has an Audio Library song. Is this a UX bug, or am I really free to do so? submitted by /u/Stefan_S_from_H [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

IP agreement / contract

Hopefully this is the right place. I'm a small business owner looking to get access to certain IP's legally to produce associated products. My understanding from the research I've done, the cut is generally around 5% to 15%. My issue is actually getting in touch with someone at these companies because they never reply. For example Viacom / Paramount. Is there some sort of middleman agent that I have to go through? Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I understand some of these email addresses get bombarded with similar requests, but then how do I go about getting these types of business arrange ..read more
