What do you consider a strong hot throw?

So, I’ve been making test candles with Ceda Serica, and so far, I’ve only been able to test four since I’m waiting for the other candles to cure. I know that wicking is difficult with this wax but anyway, from what I’ve tested, one candle (everything being the same except for the wick) has no hot throw, but the others have a hot throw but not much. In the second burn, I smell them more but still not as much as I’d like. I would smell it when I get inside the room, especially when the door was closed before getting inside. And then, once in a while, I’d smell a whiff of it being inside, but mo ..read more

Halp? A or B?

I am a hot mess with changing my mind on labels. It is sooooo expensive to constantly be changing styles like this. These are my small size candles. Which style is more pleasing to the eye? I'm calling the white version A and the faux Kraft version B. A mixture of the two woth either design on either paper is also possible. A, B, Both or Neither? submitted by /u/NatasyaFilippovna [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Anyone know why my soy wax candle is tunneling like this?

I’m new to making hand-poured candles and have been using 100% soy wax with pure essential oils. This candle is one I made using an old Home Goods candle jar that I had burned through, and it was a one-wick candle as well. I let the candle burn for a few hours on the initial burn to prevent this sort of thing… never seen anything like it. Is it the wax I’m using? submitted by /u/PastelPets55 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Wicking tricky with 444, 10 is too small and 12 seems too large

Hi there! After a solid year of mad scientist-like attempts to get the perfect wick size for my 444 wax in a standard medium size 9 oz straight sided jar, I'm stumped! I tried a CD 14 wick like Candle Science's wick guide suggested- too big. The melt pool was fully formed in about 30 minutes and the flame was large/ smokey etc. CD 12 seems pretty perfect as far as hot throw and size of the flame, reduced smoke after blowing it out etc, but the melt pool is still fully formed after only about 45 minutes to an hour. CD 10 is too small, hot throw is poor and the wax around the sides isn't quiiit ..read more

Need some advice with a multi-wick candle burn test

Ignoring the slightly cruddy wick placement (hi I'm new and still learning)-- this is at the end of a total of 8 hours of burn testing. Two sessions of four hours each. Looking at this, would you suggest adding a third wick in the same size, or slightly sizing down before adding a third wick? Any advice on getting wick placement right would be great. This is a ceramic slip-cast vessel I made myself and the bottom is curved so it's difficult to figure out how the wicks go! Thank you! Learning is fun. :) submitted by /u/brodyqat [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’m ready to get started on candle making and plan to make my own vessels and other items myself. I’m curious to hear thoughts on jesmonite vs concrete. Also, are there kits for beginners to purchase to get started in making their own vessels? Thank you! submitted by /u/Think-Confidence-624 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

I’ve got some fly by jing jars and I’d love to fill them with a cool scent! Any ideas! Using beeswax and I also have lemongrass essential oils, but it would be fun to play around with Sichuan peppercorns or cloves! Any ideas on what to incorporate? submitted by /u/Ok_Two4047 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do you get that rustic marbled look? I'm dying to recreate it for myself! I use soy wax and I've looked up mottling wax but nothing seems to mottle quite THIS much. https://preview.redd.it/bueygr9075wc1.png?width=613&format=png&auto=webp&s=4ae49436eb808a55d6409e85b41ef47bb0b2cdda submitted by /u/darkmoon317 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
