Ok, so my artichoke seedlings are wilting any time I put them out side. Before when there were inside they were not wilting. And the temperature was not super hot (~75f), morning sun and properly watered. Any suggestions why they keep wilting? submitted by /u/edcuster [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How do I prep this weed filled garden for transplants?

I am completely new to gardening, but I’ve got some tomato and eggplant seedlings doing pretty well and would like to plant them outside in a few weeks (zone 6b). This is the garden I am working with - completely covered by well established weeds. Should I: (a) try a “no till” method like covering it in cardboard and mulch? Or is that something you need to do months in advance of planting? (b) use a hoe or shovel and just remove the whole weed-filled top layer of the soil, then throw down a bunch of compost or something? (c) use a pitchfork to rip up the weeds and then till/turn the soil ..read more

Hello I know this is a very dumb question, please be kind. I’m wanting to start my very first ever vegetable & flower garden. I have a section that gets full sun and is low wind. I just want to begin by planting straight into the ground, not a raised bed. My question is do I just dig up dirt and swirl it around, dig up dirt and mix it in with a bag of soil you buy from the store? Thank you!!! submitted by /u/InvestigatorSea2350 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Pepper Plant Update!

Check out the little ‘peps. Lemme know what you think :) Do people normally prune the little buds at the top? (Pictures 7-8) I understand pruning early on to allot the plant to dedicate more energy to root/leaf/stem production, but they’re hard to reach with my pruners and don’t pop off easily without damage to the stem. (Don’t mind all the cucumbers in the background, that I definitely DIDNT start a month early and now can barely contain inside, and my fertilizer burned tomatoes that are in recovery ?) submitted by /u/Ghastly_Shart [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Unless (knock wood) something dies or gets eaten, I've planted everything that is going to be planted (minus succession sowings). I have my grow bag garden on my deck and an herb hut in my side yard. It is so hard to wait for the plants and seedlings to start doing stuff! I don't expect veggies yet, but new leaves, new tendrils...maybe some seeds starting to germinate. I know it's important to check the garden daily for pests and to see if it needs watering, and I planted the garden to be an escape from my dissertation time...but now that nothing is happening (that I can see) I just get stres ..read more

Help tomato seedling drying out
Vegetable Gardening | Reddit

I am new at gardening. I transplanted this Roma tomato seedling about a week ago. Much of the rootball soil fell off because it was rather dry. I thoroughly watered after transplanting and gave it partial shade for about 2 days. The leafs started drying out and dying. Is this transplant shock? Next time, should I transplant when soil is still moist so that rootball stays? Any input and suggestions to avoid repeating mistake next season is appreciated. Note: I transplanted my jalapeño seedlings the same way and they are all doing great. submitted by /u/CincoCinqFive [visit reddit] [comme ..read more
