Raindancer – Rush (Depeche Mode Cover)

The Swedish artist 'Raindancer' presents a particularly snappy version of the Depeche Mode song 'Rush', produced for the dance floor. The song 'Rush' is for me one of the most underrated songs from the album 'Songs Of Faith And Devotion' (1993). When the album came out I always hoped that this song would be a single release. Unfortunately it never came to that. However, it's nice to hear that on the 30th anniversary of the album releases, 'Raindancer' has taken on this song and conjured up a powerful future pop number from it. Listen to 'Raindancer – Rush (Depeche Mode Cover)' on Spotify Lyr ..read more

Dada's Troost – Visit From A Friend

Official music video for the synth pop song 'Visit From A Friend' performed by "Dada's Troost". Video by Martijn van der Sanden. The Netherlands-based band has proven their ability to create catchy and energetic synth pop music that immediately gets stuck in your head. The song opens with a Pet Shop Boys vibe (maybe only in my world), transporting the listener back to the 80s. Dada's Troost has described their sound as a mix of Depeche Mode and Red Hot Chili Peppers and this is evident in the way they blend the electronic elements with live instruments. The lyrics may raise some eyebrows, b ..read more

Nightsister – Hometown Wound

Official music video for the dark  wave song 'Hometown Wound' performed by the US band 'Nightsister' taken from the EP 'Send Angels Here'. As a fan of dark wave music, I was very taken with Nightsister, 'Hometown Wound'. This emotional track has a classic sound reminiscent of the genre's origins. From the first note, the mood is set by a melancholic and sombre tone that perfectly captures the sadness and romance of the song. Despite the sombre nature of the music, 'Hometown Wound' is surprisingly poppy, according to the band, making it a standout track on Nightsister's EP 'Send Angels ..read more

Naeon Teardrops – Waters Rising

If you're looking for a song that will take you on an emotional journey, Naeon Teardrops' 'Waters Rising' is the perfect track for you. This dark pop/synth pop song is a slow burner that will leave you feeling cold and melancholic, but also strangely captivated. The song is quite monotonous, with little variation in tempo or dynamics, but somehow manages to remain exciting throughout. It's not a song that will get you moving on the dance floor, but rather one that is best enjoyed through quiet listening, preferably with a good pair of headphones. Listening to 'Waters Rising' feels like embark ..read more

Darkways – Young again
Electrozombies Magazine

As I put on Darkways' 'Young Again', I was immediately transported to the dark and romantic soundscapes of the 80s. The synths sound almost like they were plucked right out of that era, yet the song somehow feels fresh and contemporary. It's an impressive feat that Darkways has managed to capture the essence of the genre so well. The beat is infectious and had me tapping my feet right from the start. It's hard not to dance along to the rhythm, even though the mood of the song is quite sad. The harmonies are beautifully layered and add to the melancholic feeling of the track. It's a perfect ba ..read more
