For me, the Netflix movie Always Be My Maybe with Ali Wong and Randall Park was about a 6.5 but >! Keanu Reeves' 10 minutes of screentime !< elevated it to a 7.5. It went from a pretty okay movie to something I still occasionally chuckle about when I think of it. What other movies have been elevated similarly? Any genre, doesn't have to be comedy.

Tryna rack my brain rn for characters that arent in a series of movies or shows, and dont start off pretty sympathetic already, and have a satisfying redemption arc after being a shit for most of it
bc it feels like it takes so much longer and more work to satisfyingly redeem a character than it is to satisfyingly break a "good" character etc
at least off the top of my head rn

I generally check out the reviews of a movie before I go to see it, but I'm finding it harder and harder to find out anything of substance from reviews. I used to watch At the Movies with Ebert and Roeper back in the day, and they would typically give you a sense of what was valuable about a movie and what kind of viewer it would appeal to.
These days, reviews all seem to boil down to "MOVIE GOOD" or "MOVIE BAD" + a shit-ton of puns. I really started paying attention to this with the Wonka movie. Every single review was just a series of chocolate or candy-related puns that didn't actually tel ..read more

I watched this movie a lot when I was young. Walton Goggins did such a good job at playing a greasy bad guy that I hated him and I think that imprinted onto me and haven't even liked looking at him. I recently finished Fallout and now my opinion has completely changed. I think he is such a good actor and just does so well at what he does.

I knew this movie was about the murders and that Charles Manson was a cult leader, that was it. I remember watching reviews when it came out that went into the deeper context a bit more but I had long forgotten it.
I was really loving the first half of this movie, Pitt and DiCaprio are amazing leads as always, the slow burn set up and Ricks acting career and aspirations were intriguing and hilarious, I kinda presumed this would be a comedic alternate history like Inglorious Basterds and it seemed like the first bit of the movie confirmed that, so once I got to the ranch it clicked

I’m totally hooked on romantic flicks lately, and I’m craving some new recommendations to add to my watchlist. I’m talking about those movies that make you swoon, cry, and believe in love all over again. Whether it’s a classic like "The Notebook" or something more recent like "La La Land," I’m all ears for your suggestions. Bonus points if it’s a hidden gem that’s not on everyone’s radar yet. And hey, feel free to share why you love the movie too! Is it the chemistry between the leads, the epic grand gestures, or just the overall feels it gives you? Can’t wait to see what you all come up with ..read more

Which "imagined future" portrayed in a movie resonated with you the most? In the vein of what you think our future is actually going to look like; do you (for example) think that we could actually see Bladerunner-esque cities? When you think "the future", what kind of society/setting/environment do you think is most likely to unfold?

Shan from cinematic excrement will have a field day with this. We got
-American society of magical Negros: a tone deaf film about black people making white men happy…need I say more?
-Ghostbusters Frozen Empire: A fail attempt for the late Ivan ritteman ghostbusters franchise which no one want part in even his own son want any part of it.
-Madame Webb: need I say more
-Rebel Moon Part 2: is it safe to say that Zach Snyder is becoming the new Michael Bay?

My pick would be nathan and kyoko in ex machina. Nathan didn't deserve to go out the way he did. He deserved another half hour minimum of authoritative move busting. Those two danced my soul straight out of my body. Tom cruise as les Grossman is like a dancing mack truck and holds his own in the ring but ex machina takes the cake for me.
