Meg 2: The Trench Review
Renegade Cinema

In 2018, The Meg was a surprise hit monster movie. In what could have been just another B-level Jason Statham action movie, Jon Turtltaub created a fun movie that saw Statham battle a giant prehistoric megalodon released from the depths of the ocean. While it didn’t receive great critical reviews, it still made $530 million at the box office and proved that critics are not always right. For my part, I loved the first Meg movie. In my The Meg review, I wrote, “Don’t expect the next Jaws. Expect the next Lake Placid but with a 65-foot prehistoric shark in a no-holds-barred match with J ..read more

The Flash Easter Eggs: Every DC Character Who Appeared In The Movie
Renegade Cinema
by Stevie Lee

The Flash offered up a fun final take for the DCU that Zack Snyder built and filled it with Flash Easter eggs. This meant that director Andrés Muschietti could have some fun at the same time. Since The Flash was all about creating a version of the Flashpoint storyline, this movie could change the entire DCU, while also paying homage to the past DC properties. To do so, there were a ton of great cameos in the movie from characters in both DC Comics and past DC properties. Here is a look at every DC character who appeared in The Flash movie. Read our review of The Flash movie here. The Flash ..read more

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Review
Renegade Cinema
by Shawn S. Lealos

When the Transformers franchise started, it was exciting and showed that the classic toy line/cartoon could succeed on the big screen – and succeed on a high level. However, something happened along the way. After the first movie told the story about a “boy and his car,” the second movie made things more about an all-out war, and by the third movie, the humans didn’t matter anymore. While the movies kept making money, the quality dropped, and what was once critic-proof became something that no one really talked about liking anymore. After Transformers: Age of Extinction broke $1 billion, The L ..read more

Cocaine Bear Review
Renegade Cinema
by Shawn S. Lealos
10M ago
Cocaine Bear was based on a true story. That may seem hard to believe, but it is true – kind of. In September 1985, convicted drug smuggler Andrew Thornton died after a parachuting accident. The word is that he was traveling with 880 pounds of cocaine and threw a bunch out of the plane before parachuting out and falling to his death. He was found dead in a driveway with $15 million worth of cocaine on him. However, more cocaine was missing. In December 1985, a 175-pound black bear died of an overdose of cocaine after discovering a batch of the drug in Chattahoochee National Forest in Tennessee ..read more

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Review
Renegade Cinema
by Shawn S. Lealos

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania faced an uphill battle for things that were out of its control. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown to a massive size. It has some fans thinking they need to connect every movie to understand each one. Honestly, this is a non-factor. Fans can watch almost every movie in the MCU on their own, with little knowledge. They won’t miss anything other than Easter eggs and things that really don’t matter to the story. If no one ever saw Loki, it wouldn’t hurt Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania at all. Kang made his first appearance on that Disney+ show. However, no ..read more

Renfield Trailer: Nic Cage Is Dracula!
Renegade Cinema
by John Savage

I never knew I needed Nicolas Cage as Dracula until I watched the new Renfield trailer. The movie, hitting theaters on April 14, stars Nicholas Hoult (Beast from the X-Men movies) as Renfield, the classic minion of Dracula. In the trailer, he clearly wants out, even going to a support group and pleading his case. However, that is when Nic Cage shows up as Dracula the movie instantly becomes must see. Awkwafina also stars as a security cop who Renfield saves in an armed robbery. Based on the trailer, it appears the two of them will find a way to get Renfield out from under Dracula’s control. It ..read more

The Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, of which I am a voting member, named its best of 2022 movie award winners yesterday. The voting was done by the full membership and the winners included a strong mix of big-budget movies, critical indie darlings, and even a Netflix original or two. Here is a look at who the OFCC named the best of the best of 2022. Best Film of 2022 The best film of 2022 went to the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once. The movie starred Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan as a married couple who are growing apart, but when they find they live in just one world in a world of multi ..read more

Clerks III Review
Renegade Cinema
by Shawn S. Lealos

It has seemed like Kevin Smith has coasted on his unique brand of low-brow humor and cult following for much of the last two decades. While his movies have played mostly to his loyal fanbase, nothing has quite reached the levels of his early output, from Clerks to Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. There were movies thrown in there where he stretched himself a bit. Jersey Girl remains highly underrated as a father-daughter story. Zack and Miri Make a Porno was a good move outside his View Askewniverse. He also took a couple of chances with the horror movies Tusk and Red State. However, even some ..read more

DC League of Super-Pets Review
Renegade Cinema
by Shawn S. Lealos
10M ago
In an era where more and more people want their superhero movies to be geared toward adults, it is always nice to get something for the kids as well. The only request is that the movies also give adults something to keep them invested as well. This happened nicely with DC league of Super-Pets. As the title suggests, this movie delivers an adventure with a group of super-powered pets, all led by Superman’s best friend, Krypto. As with most superhero movies these days, it had to start with an origin story, but at least they made it quick. Krypton is about to blow up so Kal-El’s parents put him i ..read more
