Reflecting on the success of Netflix’s Supacell
Soundsphere magazine
by Jo Davis
2d ago
The Netflix series “Supacell” is an international series about five Londoners who suddenly acquire superhuman powers. The sci-fi series struck a chord worldwide with its themes based heavily on the Black experience in London. Each of the five main characters, their lives, backstories, and powers form small representations of Black culture across the globe. In Supacell, the superhero trope is a cinematic disguise for a serious discussion of how universal the Black experience truly is. Supacell focuses on five primary characters—Micheal, Rodney, Andre, Sabrina, and Tazer–from different bac ..read more

“Big slow-motion action sequences, no one knows if you live or die… Let’s f***ing go!” It’s been twenty-four or so years in the making and the subject of countless fan theories and speculations – and hope – but finally The Merc With the Mouth and the one they call Logan are teaming up in the same movie in the same cinematic universe. Soundsphere magazine
by Puja Nandi

Twisters, the standalone sequel to the original Twister from 1996, will blow you off your feet with its overdrive on blockbuster tackiness. On the other hand, it’s silly popcorn cinema so if you’re after cheap cinematic thrills, this is probably your ticket. Twisters is a surprising big-budget overture for director Lee Isaac Chung.
