The dividing Berlin Wall

I have seen and heard so much about Berlin Wall that the visit here was a no-brainer. More so when the wall is synonymous to Berlin as it was one of the symbols of the Cold War. I made my way to Berlin Wall Memorial to learn a little more about the walled border between Western Europe and the Eastern Bloc. The whole Berlin Wall Memorial is like a large outdoor exhibit that runs along the entire stretch of Bernauer Strasse. It’s divided into sections with each detailing the different bits of the dark history. The Window of Remembrance column show photos of 130+ people who had lost their lives ..read more

Lunch at Reichstag Building in Berlin

I made a reservation at Reichstag Building Kafer Dachgarten restaurant and was looking forward to the lunch. It’s mentioned that Reichstag in Berlin is the world’s only parliament building to house a public restaurant. The lunch reservation is another way to enter the Reichstag Building if you are unable to secure a visiting time slot via the German parliament official website like myself. Hence, the unearthly departure time and the 3.5 hours flight between Reykjavik and Berlin did nothing to damper my mood. I quickly made my way from Berlin Schoenefeld to the hotel for bag drop off and headed ..read more

Hraunfossar Waterfalls and parting with Iceland

I stopped by at Hvitserkur and Hraunfossar Waterfalls as I made my way from Akureyri to Reykjavik. The past 3 days in Akureyri were time well spent and eventful. For I get to visit some of the natural wonders in Northern Iceland and catching the Northern Lights in action. It’s a long drive so I have to refrain from pulling over for photo taking too frequently. That alone is an immense task as there are so many photography opportunities in the “Land of Fire and Ice”. But I have to stick to my plan in order to return the rental car on time. As it’s the final day of my 8 days Iceland Road Trip be ..read more

Northern Lights in Iceland and a painful lesson

Northern Lights aka Aurora Borealis was one of the main reasons for me to visit Iceland. The other being the diverse landscape dotted with natural wonders. In fact, I feel that Iceland’s landscape alone has already made my trip so worthwhile as I move around the island. But surely, seeing the Northern Lights would be an icing on the cake. It will be a nice consolation for the Lofoten trip last year where the cloudy nights diminished any of my chances. I had a déjà vu feeling since the first night in Reykjavik because the cloud cover forecasts have not been favourable. That’s until I arrived at ..read more

Northernmost Town of Siglufjordur and visit to Godafoss

Siglufjordur is one and a half-hour drive away from Iceland’s second-largest city of Akureyri. However, this was not always possible until the opening of road tunnels in 2010 which links Olafsfjordur to Siglufjordur. Before the tunnels came into existence, road access to Siglufjordur was only possible during the summer. Any other months would require a plane or boat ride and even horse riding over the mountains. That would mean Siglufjordur will be isolated most months in a year if not for the tunnels. Henceforth, I am thankful to visit Siglufjordur for a day trip simply by driving along Route ..read more

It was already late morning in Akureyri as I dragged myself out of bed. The long drive from Egilsstadir and chasing the Northern Lights into the wee hours yesterday had tired me out. Hence, I started the day at a much slower pace than I usually would. Of course, the comfortable bed of Hotel Kea played a crucial role as well LOL. After washing up, I went over to check out the hilltop church of Akureyri (Akureyrarkirkja) which sits next to the hotel. The Lutheran church has a simple yet distinctive façade. On the inside, there’s a nice-looking model ship hanging from the ceiling. Perhaps it’s fo ..read more

Seydisfjordur and Namafjall Hverir

The plan for today was to check out the picturesque town of Seydisfjordur. Before making my way to Namafjall Hverir Geothermal Area and Akureyri next. But I woke up feeling nervous as parts of the roads was closed yesterday. No thanks to the recent heavy snowing. It would be a let down if I am unable to visit those places. Thankfully, Road.is indicated that most of the roads are clear to proceed. I heaved a sigh of relief that Lady luck was on my side! I left early for Seydisfjordur after a simple breakfast provided by Guesthouse Egilsstadir. Route 93 to Seydisfjordur The road which links Egi ..read more

Glacier Lagoons of Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon
WanderLex | Singapore Travel Blog

Within the massive Vatnajökull National Park are two well-known glacier lagoons of Fjallsarlon and Jokulsarlon. Both are located around the Southwestern Coast of Ring Road. My first stop was to visit the lesser-known Fjallsarlon which is also smaller in scale as compared to Jokulsarlon. This little brother of Jokulsarlon is not right beside the Ring Road and is often being overlooked. From the parking lots for Skaftafell, it took me almost to an hour drive to reach Fjallsarlon plus another five minutes’ walk. Fjallsarlon Glacier Lagoon Smaller it may be but Fjallsarlon is definitely worth a s ..read more
