The Rockpit
by Josh Brannon

Down the Mountainside is Swedish prog rock quartet Quantum’s debut album and the band’s first release since their 2020 EP The Next Breath of Air. This latest offering is both more accessible and more adventurous than Quantum’s earlier work. The album’s eight songs cover a musical gamut, ranging from the aggressive, riff leaden ‘The Last Stone’ to the straightforward but dulcet acoustic number ‘Dots. While the production quality is in someways inferior to The Next Breath of Air, with the instrumental arrangements feeling at times too relentlessly cluttered and dense – rendering lead singer and ..read more

Black Aces Friday night at the Leadbeater Hotel had a four band line up, closed by the Black Aces. It was a quiet night in Melbourne due to the Easter break, school holidays and no football (gather round in Adelaide) but the dedicated old school music fans came out to raise a glass to some quality Oz rock. The Dreadful Tides First act were The Dreadful Tides, now fronted by the newest member, lead singer Jimmy Black with Justin Strudwick on guitar, Wes Hopkins on bass and Leland Hallett on drums. They played a seven-song set filled with good hard pub rock with raw and strong vocal tones. The g ..read more

Photo by Blackham Images A true roots-rocker, ‘See You Again’ is an ode to love and loss, good times and memories made, featuring a chorus fit for kicking up dust on the backroads with the windows down. Full-bodied acoustic guitar guides this track through contemplation to celebration. It’s a deeply personal song to every member of The Commoners. “We were in Sheffield when we received the news. Halfway through our first UK tour, Adam was faced with the impossible decision of whether or not he should fly back to Canada to be with his father in his final moments. ALBUM REVIEW: Snakebite – Cobra Crew
The Rockpit
by Rob Jones

It’s been six years since the release of the last Snakebite album Rise Of The Snake, A great follow up that managed to actually improve on the debut that came before it, Princess Of Pain. Snakebite walk the line between hard rock and what was referred to as heavy metal in the 80s rather than what we’d likely define that label as these days. A synth wave beat and piano playing kicks off “Blow It Up” before the drums queue up the riffs and vocals, a mid tempo verse section gives way to an anthemic chorus that will no doubt go over huge in their live set. There’s a great guitar solo later i ..read more
