“You’ll find someone before you know it.” A well-meaning friend thought he was encouraging me. However, these words set the course of my early journey as a single mom. They became my marching orders. Deep inside, I heard, “You are on your own. You have to find a husband. You are no one without someone.” What I didn’t realize then was that I was being set up to be discipled by the world.  Proverbs 14:12-13 (ESV) tells us, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.” The Message version says it in extremely straightforward language, “There’s a way of life ..read more

“The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” PHILIPPIANS 4: 5-7 NIV I don’t know about you, but there have been times in my single mom life when this verse has made me feel guilty. With a quick read, the verse appears to offer a prescription: if you’re worried or fearful, stop and pray, and you will feel better. But for me, crippling anxiety never seems to dissolve quickly ..read more

Many times, as single moms, we wear many hats and it seems as if we are riding a "larger-than-life" rollercoaster that never seems to slow down. Can you relate? One year ends and we fall head first into the next one. We tend to want to dive into the new year without fully summing up what really took place in the previous year. We step into the new year without fully resolving the issues of the last one. My prayer is that today, you begin to take the time to extract the gems and nuggets from the previous year. God was speaking the entire time, but did we pause for a moment to hear what He was ..read more

7 Ways to Heal From a Broken Heart by Jennifer Maggio
The Life of a Single Mom - Where No Single Mom Walks Alone

It comes rushing in like a familiar friend who unexpectedly comes for a visit, and it’s usually bearing luggage for a long-term stay. A broken heart. Unfortunately, we’ve all-too-familiar with its grip. The weight of a broken heart leaves grief in its wake, making most of us gasp for air as we flail our arms trying to escape its immovable grip. The pain is substantial. The vibrant blues and yellows of life quickly turn gray and we find ourselves trudging through. It’s usually not the weight of one thing that puts us under. Rather it’s the occurrence of seemingly a thousand. A thousand pains ..read more

“I promise, this year I am finally submitting to you, God! You can run my life, You can have Your way. I am officially over trying to do and maintain things my way.” Sound familiar? For me, that was the broken record that my tired heart played time and time again, year in and year out. The sayings were definitely on repeat: “Out with the old, in with the new.” “New Year, new me.” “Let it go, move on.” Everything you could think of, I said it and tried to do it. But New Year's resolutions never stuck with me. It was almost like a replica of my dating life. It looked good, sounded g ..read more

I am a hot cocoa-drinking, joy-filled, Christmas-loving kind of girl. I love the pictures of snow-fallen front yards. (I can only enjoy those from afar, because... well... Louisiana only gets down to about 50 degrees most winters!) I love the burning of peppermint candles and festive music and gatherings of family and friends that are so prevalent this time of year. I love the candle-lighting services at churches and extra worship services and additional opportunities to serve at homeless shelters or holiday outreaches. Like many, it truly is a special time of year in my life. Many ..read more

Praying for a Breakthrough by Courtney Rogers

Do you need breakthrough in your life? Are you ready for the mountain in front of you to move? If this is you, then keep reading. I was chatting with a friend last week about what God was doing in my life, and the things I was hearing from Him. She made the comment “I’ve never heard God tell me anything like that.” My next question to her was “have you asked”? You see, I think we limit our Mighty God, by not having full conversations with Him. We might call out to Him in our time of need. Or perhaps when we’re praying, we do all of the talking, and don’t allow it to be a two-way conversa ..read more
