My mom is visiting for the first time and she just bought me a gorgeous lilac bush in hopes I could plant it by my kitchen so I could enjoy the smells when I open the window, I'm worried about the size of the space though (and there's like tons of rocks here?) just wanted some opinions before I tried pursuing this spot as an option any further submitted by /u/MissPennyArcade [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

How to Repair/Fill/Seal concrete cracks on front porch steps crack (where sidewalk meets the first stair) & backyard patio

Need some how-to advice and instructions on how to fill, repair, seal two separate areas where I have cracked, damaged concrete and deep erosion. Here’s the scope of work I’m planning to do for both areas: - Pour polymeric sand between cracks, have a 50lb bag that I’d like use between both areas. Is this the best material to be “filling the space underneath my front steps/walk? - Use foam backer rods (3/8” for front stairs, 1/2” for patio crack) after the sand is filled in and visible underneath. - Apply self-leveling Sika brand concrete cracks sealant. Please let me know thoughts on this ..read more

I have this 14'9" x 16'9" area in the backyard I want to add pavers to. Need some advice on which direction to go. Previously it was filled with white rocks and had a few low planters. This means the entire area is about 4-7inch below the adjacent concrete and lawn edging. I know ill need to level and compact the soil so this will probably lower it even more. Here was my initial plan: (A) - Level the soil - Plan to lay pavers NOT edge to edge and only in a ~12'9" x ~14'6" area - Use paver pads instead of gravel paver base - Not worry about the pavers aligning to the concrete/lawn. - Fill ..read more

Hello all! My fiancee and I are getting married this August in our backyard. I want to landscape the back corner of my property which is currently dry and rocky soil with some unsightly brush. I was just wondering if there would be anything I can plant out there that would look “full” by this August. I’m in Michigan and we’re just now starting to get out of freezing temps in the morning. The area is mixed sun/shade. I plan to till up all of the rough soil out there, line the area with stone/bricks stacked up, and fill in the area with fresh soil that I plan to have delivered. submitted by /u ..read more

Added a pool. They dug down to make a concrete pad for the equipment. The electrical meters are right there pictured. It's about a 1.5 ft drop. Would it be easy to make a retaining wall? How would I start? submitted by /u/WallstRad [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Mulch developing mould?

Hey guys my back garden that I mulch keeps developing mould. Any ideas as to why or recommendations? I usually put new mulch down once per summer, but it’s getting discouraging having this mould keep appearing. I am just doing my spring cleaning now and it is already under some of the leaves I’m clearing The garden has various perennials, a maple, and some lilac bushes. I do have an automated water system for summer months if I’m away that runs every other day, so I don’t think it’s being overwatered. submitted by /u/TBZ2091 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
