Rosemary Plant (Rosmarinus officinalis) The rosemary shrub comes in 2 different varieties (upright and trailing).  The rosemary bush is a short plant that grows very small green leaves with small blue flowers (there are pink and white varieties also).  The upright shrub grows to be about 2-4 feet tall (1-2 feet for trailing variety) and gets to be about 2-6 feet in diameter.  The shrub is thornless with very low litter so it does well near borders or around pools.   It blooms in spring with a great fragrance, and it grows best in full sun but does grow in partial su ..read more

Why Aerate Your Lawn Here In Phoenix? Aeration creates holes down into the soil to alleviate compaction so air, water, and nutrients can reach grass roots.  This is important because grass roots need air, water, and nutrients to be thick and healthy.  See the image of what this machine looks like; https://www.instagram.com/p/CKg6lMOHP5L/ Core plug aeration machines work great to resolve these issues because the machine actually pulls ½ – 1” plugs from the soil.  See the image at this link; https://www.instagram.com/p/CKg5lA4HHuD/ We are offering a sale through the end of Febr ..read more

Have you ever seen a fallen saguaro or had one fall at your home?  Saguaro cactus are protected by the State of Arizona through the Native Protective Act with the AZ Department of Agriculture.  I was able to speak to someone on the phone this past week to confirm that if you have a saguaro that goes down on your private property you DO NOT need a permit to remove it.  However, if you no longer want to have a living/standing saguaro at your property you must have a permit to have it moved.  Because it is protected you cannot cut it down and/or kill the cactus.  The g ..read more

Why Is The Landscaping Rock Sprayed Yellow? Have you ever driven by a community or strip mall that looks like the rocks have been sprayed with yellow dye?   The rock or granite in common areas are usually treated 1-2 times per year with a product that prevents weeds from growing by preventing broadleaf weeds from germinating.  Preventing the germination of seeds will keep these areas clear of weeds after a rain.  The product that is used that has this yellow color is called Pendulum and is not made to harm plants or even lawns but only prevent seeds from growing.  Pendu ..read more

When to Mow After Winter Lawn Installation

When to Mow & How Much Watering After Winter Lawn Overseeding We have been getting lots of questions regarding when to mow after overseeding with a winter lawn and what the watering schedule should be after that first mow.  We recommend mowing the lawn the first time 3-4 weeks after the seed is put down.  At AMS Landscaping we actually prefer to wait until week 4 since we like to go back to our properties 2 weeks after seeding to fill in bare areas with more seed and keep the watering to 3 times per day all the way up to the day we mow so we get the most growth out of the law ..read more
