As you will no doubt be aware the media has recently focused on the lack of HGV drivers in the UK market – a direct result of Covid/Brexit – more specifically down to so called pingdemic, a huge backlog in HGV applications/tests, drivers returning to the EU since Brexit and the continued surge in imports to the UK. Deferred Customs Declarations Deadline – 25 June 2021

If you have used the UK Government’s deferred declaration scheme (EIDR) from the 1st January 2021, the first deadline for delayed customs import declarations is approaching fast. Anyone who took advantage of the 1st January 2021 175-day extended period to complete their import declarations must now do so by the 25th of June. The UK Government deferred declarations scheme has been extended until 31st December 2021, but importers must process their 175-day declarations regularly. The Matthew Good Foundation has published its annual review for 2020, and we’re delighted to confirm that in 2020 the Foundation pledged £85k to charities and good causes, making 2020 their biggest year of giving yet! It was amazing to see so many employees supporting small charities and local causes with Championing Grants, which allow employees to nominate a charity to receive a £500 donation (or £1,000 if you’re a volunteer). World’s first large ship tunnel to be built under Norwegian mountains Norway has got the go-ahead to construct what’s being billed as the world’s first ship tunnel, designed to help vessels navigate the treacherous Stadhavet Sea. The Norwegian Coastal Administration notes that while other tunnels can accommodate small boats and barges, no other underpass has been built to serve large ships. Suez Canal traffic finally moving again after the stranded ship is refloated The stranded container ship blocking the Suez Canal has been finally been refloated, with traffic in the channel now free to resume. Container ship blocking the Suez Canal delays $6.5bn of goods a day The operation to move the Japanese-owned container ship currently wedged in Egypt’s Suez Canal could take weeks and significantly impact world trade and UK-bound deliveries. While efforts continue to free the giant vessel, a reported $29 billion worth of goods is already stuck with estimates of $6.5 up to $9.5 billion being added daily.
