Given the subject matter of my book, it won’t surprise you that travel memoirs are my favorite genre. I like fiction as much as the next gal, but for me there’s something powerful about going along on a transformational journey with a real person. (Even better, with a person who is still living and whose journey you could actually recreate if you wanted to!) That’s why I’ve compiled this list of the best non-fiction travel books. If you’re planning a trip, this is a great place to go for inspiration! There’s a vulnerability to sharing your story and letting readers know the real you. I know fo ..read more

Hotel Review: EMBRACE Resort in Staniel Cay

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been to The Bahamas. I’ve worked, vacationed, had my destination wedding and my honeymoon there. I’ve visited more of the islands than most people, and at this point, it’s definitely my most-visited country. Why? The white sand beaches and pristine turquoise seas are an obvious draw, but there’s something else, too. The islands are quirky. The vibe, the history and the people are just special from bustling Nassau to the small islands with 100 residents – like Staniel Cay, home to my latest hotel crush: EMBRACE Resort. While more than 700 islands might see ..read more

Good morning from onboard the Royal Caribbean Mariner of the Seas! We’re just about to disembark and drive home to Jacksonville from Port Canaveral. It’s been 4-nights and 5-days of family shenanigans, memory-making (um, Ben borrowed and older lady’s dentures and Rae and I threw our bras on the stage – don’t ask) and laughing until we cried, and we did it all instead of our traditional Christmas celebrations. I’m a big fan of traditions and always doing the same thing every year, but man, this was a really fun, carefree change of pace – and no one had to do the dishes or worry about driving on ..read more

Occasionally brands share products or opportunities for me to review. Some of the ones I liked most from 2023 appear here in the travel gift guide with my honest opinion; others get returned to sender if they’re not up to snuff. And other items, like the GoPro, are personal favorites I can’t live without. Rest assured, I only include goodies I personally approve of, use and/or want! Some of the links may be affiliate links, which means that I receive a small fee for the referral if you make a purchase. It doesn’t change the price you pay, but it does help me to keep Angie Away free as a resou ..read more

Hello from MIA, where I’m on my way back from a Seabourn Cruise media event. It’s nice to get one more flight in before the end of Q3…  August, and the whole summer, slipped away like a moment in time, and here we are on October’s doorstep. A month that is little more than a tease for us Floridians. Sure, I’ve got pumpkins and gourds (two I grew myself!) and mums like everyone else, but it’s still beach weather around here. Nothing new.  Still, I’m crazy about autumn even though I never really get to experience it fully as a Floridian. It’s candy corn season! And swetta-weatha (if in ..read more

Hello friendos and fellow Swifties! It sure seems like a lot has happened in the past 90 days. I guess that’s adult life. I’ve had some incredible concert experiences, fun and relaxing trips and career wins to go with some mostly personal dramas, so without further ado, it’s time for this edition of Reflections from the Road to SPEAK NOW. Highs TAYLOR’S VERSION Not sure there will ever be a better concert than Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. Rae and I got tickets for Night 2 in Tampa and it was flawless. FLAWLESS. After more than a year on the waitlist, Rick’s new Ankona fishing boat is finally ready! Now, when I said, “Ok, sure get a boat,” did I also think about all the other things that a boat needs? Namely, a couple motors, safety stuff and a boathouse of its own? You know I did not. And here we are. In the Florida sun, it’s a must t ..read more

Celebrating April Pools Day 2023

Today is a special day in our house, y’all! It’s April Pool’s Day, the official start of summertime… at least in our backyard. Technically, we have a house full of folks no matter what the season, but this is when we officially open up the pool for all our friends and family to pop over and cool off. It’s been plenty summer-like in Jacksonville since our 4-day winter back in December, but we’ve had just enough cool days that we’re ready for the next season. Ironically enough, now that April is here, it’s been rainy and cold.  As you know, we put the pool in at this time a few years ago ..read more
