It is so rare to find Peranakan food in the heartlands, so when I learned that there is a fairly new Peranakan Western food stall near me, I immediately made a beeline to try it out and was pleasantly surprised at the creativeness and the affordability of it. The owners and this stall were profiled on various media outlets but the proof's in the pudding. In my case, it's in the Buah Keluak Chicken Chop and Assam Nanas Fish Burger. Other than western classics, they also serve up pizzas with interesting toppings. Here's the menu in case you are thinking to visit and wondering what to ea ..read more

I was recently invited to try out the food and drinks at Vatos City House, the second branch of Vatos at South Beach that opened in October 2023. So i was there one super rainy evening recently to see if its any good! Vatos made their name serving up Mexican-Korean dishes and in particular are known for their tacos.  The restaurant's super spacious and well decorated, with a huge ass bar. The dining area can also accommodate large groups. View their food and drinks menu here. We first started with some drinks. My bestie had the Smokey Mezcal Margarita (S$20), which was indeed very ..read more

Hey everyone! I made this for my Lemon8 account and thought I will post it here in case anyone is in Singapore for the first time and would like some recommendations from a born and bred local, and a foodie at that. Singapore can be slightly overwhelming at times but its best to take it easy and not pack too many things to tire yourself out! First, here's the Singapore MRT map pdf download, since our MRT is the best way to get around. Must eat food in Singapore include all the hits: chilli crab, laksa, nasi lemak, sambal stingray with satay and chicken wings. There's also things like fr ..read more

Food Review: Al Borgo at 383 Bukit Timah Rd, #01-02, Singapore 259727

Al Borgo is probably one of the best kept secrets when it comes to authentic Italian pizza in Singapore. I myself found out about it by chance, when my bestie suggested for us to have dinner there one night. She loved the seafood soup there and wanted me to try it as well! So of course I am there. The place is very traditional trattoria style, tucked away in a nondescript building along Bukit Timah that had, of all things, a gym next door (nearest MRT Stevens). Luckily despite the open kitchen window, there wasn't a perceptible smell. They've been around for eons, serving up delicious pizza a ..read more

I've always been a fan of the Taiwanese bistro Abundance since trying the food at their Redhill/Lengkok Bahru outlet. Thus I was pleasantly surprised to find out that they have expanded to open a new outlet at Jalan Besar that is slightly bigger and has introduced new dishes! Very abundant, indeed. So I went to try it out one Saturday afternoon at their invite and was very pleased with what I had. The restaurant's tastefully decorated, with a retro style menu board for their craft beers and cocktails. I like this pairing, but it can get really loud during peak hours because the sound bounc ..read more

By now, unless you're living under a rock, I am sure most of you would have heard or seen luckin coffee, the Chinese coffee brand that has overtaken Starbucks in China. In Singapore, they've only opened in end March this year but already has a total of 24 outlets, with more to open in December! They have also rolled out more than 50 drinks, averaging about 1 new drink weekly. That's super impressive but I also have to admit that I have not tried it all these months since I work from home mostly. Which is why I was super glad to be invited to their Christmas media tasting at One Raffles Place t ..read more

Food Review: Christmas 3-Course Menu from Bolonia Singapore, 9 Raffles Place #01-03, Republic Plaza, Singapore 048619

Bolonia Singapore is a relatively new Spanish restaurant that opened at Republic Plaza, and I had the pleasure to try out their Christmas 3-course menu recently. TLDR, it was really value-for-money and a Christmas menu that I could totally get behind for couples or groups to try this festive season. At just $40++ for 3 courses, you're getting incredible value! The restaurant does not feel fully air conditioned (there are air cons, but there's also massive floor to ceiling windows). There are fans for ventilation though, which is actually preferable for me because you don't smell of food, an ..read more

Spanish Wine Pairing Dinner: Bolonia Singapore, 9 Raffles Place #01-03, Republic Plaza, Singapore 048619

I recently attended a special 6-course Spanish wine pairing dinner on 7 November that opened my eyes to Spanish wine with food at Bolonia, the newly opened all-day dining and tapas bar & restaurant. It is located very conveniently at Republic Plaza in the heart of Raffles Place and the CBD. I arrived a bit late on a rainy evening to find the Ambassador of Spain, his colleague, the rep of the Spanish winery Parés Baltà, and the restaurant owner and manager to be awaiting me to join. It was a lovely evening tasting and learning more about the organic wines from Parés Baltà, which comes ..read more
