Spanish Food Review: Carlitos at 350 Joo Chiat Rd, Singapore 427598

Carlitos - Casa de Comidas came onto the Singapore dining scene like a piece of hot coal recently, with media covering their launch quite intensely as it is the brainchild of two famous chefs - Spanish Chef Carlos Montobbio of Esquina and Italian Chef Antonio Miscellaneo of La Bottega. I became curious as a result, yet keenly aware that new restaurants, especially those that are hyped up so much, will typically have a full reservation list and inconsistencies with their food/service. So I was cautiously managing my expectations when me and my friend finally found a dinner slot which worked for ..read more

Gadget Review: The first 360° home projector LUMOS FLOAT

Some of you all might know that I am a fan of LUMOS projectors, and they of me as well, apparently, because they have just sent me their latest LUMOS FLOAT home projector for a review and I am happy to say I am once again blown away by the tech and innovation stuffed in a 750g box that allows one to project AV content on walls and CEILINGS of homes. The best part? It only retails for $199 for the basic version and $298 for the smart version and comes with 1-year warranty, free delivery and HDMI cable.  Considering the price, the specs are pretty ridiculous. You get 1080p reso ..read more

Food Review: 1980 Hokkien Prawn Noodle.Laksa stall at #01-23 Maxwell Food Centre, Singapore 069184

I don't usually review hawker food, because there are too many hawker stalls in Singapore to cover and the price of a dish is usually not too high that people would be doing research before choosing a stall. However, a next gen hawker invited me to try his relatively new Penang-style Prawn Noodles and Laksa at Maxwell Centre, and I was intrigued. That's because I know how much work goes into making those dishes and I've had my fair share of prawn noodles and laksa as well so I wanted to find out if the stall manages to match the standards set by the previous gen. So much so I visited the 1980 ..read more

Food Review: Odem at New Bahru, 46 Kim Yam Rd, #01-17, Singapore 239351

I recently visited Odem, a modern Korean makgeolli restaurant located in the so-hip-it-hurts New Bahru compound, with our reservation made one month in advance. I've saw a few posts on social media and was sufficiently intrigued to want to go check it out myself, since I quite likely makgeolli and there aren't many options. However, my pet peeve was triggered. While the restaurant was well-designed, dimly lit and despite being strongly air-conditioned without an open kitchen, I definitely smelled like food upon leaving. Immediately walking in, a bunch of chilled makgeolli were luxuriati ..read more

Food Review: AIR CCCC at 25B Dempsey Rd, Singapore 249918

I recently tried the "TikTok famous" AIR CCCC restaurant after my friend managed to reserve a dinner slot about 2 months prior. The farm-to-table restaurant has been receiving lots of buzz since opening in Singapore on 31 January 2024. So here's my honest, no-holds barred review of the dishes that 4 of us tried, then you can decide if it is worth waiting to go. It was a small 5 min walk up a curved wooden pavement to reach the Bali-esque restaurant from the Long Beach restaurant carpark (it is not immediately obvious where the restaurant is from there). We actually had our photo taken by th ..read more

Product Review: Bedtribe's Iced Bamboo Sheets Set is pure magic!??

I wished Bedtribe reached out to me earlier when I was looking for bedsheets to replace my worn set. I eventually settled with M'sian brand Riffar and their Fluffysoft Tencel sheets because I read that tencel is dustmite proof and less allergen causing? Having an affordable price helped too. However, that was before I tried the magic that was Bedtribe's Iced Bamboo Sheets Set (Complete with duvet cover), retailing at $149 for single/super single size and I am now a convert. I'll tell you why.. and read to the end to get your 10% off code with no min. spend! When the founder Bing reached out ..read more

If you’re a fan of Spanish wine and tapas, here’s some exciting news—the Eat Spain Drink Spain campaign is back for its second year (and edition) in Singapore after a very successful first edition last year from now until 15 October! This past Saturday, I had the pleasure of being invited to The Butcher’s Dog, a charming indie butchery nestled behind Bukit Timah Plaza for a taste of this Spanish gastronomic celebration with the launch of their Saturday Brunch Series until 15 Oct. The Butcher’s Dog may not be a Spanish establishment, but they’ve partnered with Eat Spain Drink Spain to bring ..read more

What a cultured and delicious night it was at the Europe, Full of Character event held at the charming L'Angelus on 12 September! Hosted by the passionate cheesemonger François Robin (@robindescheeses) and the team at @cheesycharacters_sg, it was an evening dedicated to celebrating some of the finest French cheeses right here in Singapore. The event started at 6pm and was buzzing with cheese lovers like myself all night as we sampled cheese canapes and drank French wine.  Many tasty cheese canapes and small bites were served. This wasn’t just your typical cheese tasting. François ..read more

Set Dinner Review: Mustard Seed at 75 Brighton Crescent, Singapore 559216

Sometimes one cannot not believe in fate. Me and my bff Rux had been talking about trying out Mustard Seed, a Singaporean 'omakase' place in SG, yet tried once to book unsuccessfully because they release bookings for the month on the first of the month at noon sharp. And believe me when I say it is maybe more difficult than scoring concert tickets. But I had the pleasure to take over a Mustard Seed reservation from our mutual primary friend who couldn't make it, and finally got to go on the eve of our National Day holiday! The space is small, cosy and intimate with just one 2-person table and ..read more

Review: Pacific Emporium Local-Inspired Afternoon Tea at Pan Pacific Singapore, S039595

I had the pleasure to be invited recently to try the Local-Inspired Afternoon Tea at Pacific Emporium, the restaurant located inside Pan Pacific Singapore. I never knew there was something like this in there, which of course made me very curious to try it. And amidst rising prices for dining out, this seemed like a good option for how it is priced at $68++ per adult on weekdays for 5+1 savoury bites, 6 desserts and a pot of TWG tea or Lavazza coffee. The dining area was very peaceful with tent-like pods on top of an elevated platform with water running in between.  You can also top up ..read more
