Currently at a fortune 200 company with a much more established name than BD, but I’ve seen the miracles they’ve done in robotics so I’m intrigued. Boston Dynamic’s recruiters have a reached out many times but I’m not sure I want to make the jump. Does anyone have experience working for Boston Dynamics? How are the working conditions? Please let me know and I love you

Will pressure decrease using a closed center valve for a double acting hydraulic cylinder?
Hello, I have a double acting hydraulic cylinder that is connected to a quill and has to exerts a certain force on a workpiece while the quill and the cylinder are rotating. The force has to be applied for a certain period of time while pressing into the workpiece with the quill.
Now, if I use a 4/3 directional valve in closed center position control the cylinder Will the pressure exerted on the cylinder be enough to press into the workpiece, or do I have to keep pumping oil during the process? Will the ..read more

Hello, not sure wher to post this but I am making the robot arm seen in this video https://youtu.be/\_caHl5tz6QA?si=IWB7QoycZ98AjGDD but instead of the hand thing I want to add servo motors. The only problem is that they are too small to pull far back enough. Is there a mechanism or something I can do to get the servo to pull the string farther back?

I'm looking for the bold that's also within this clamp. For if you don't know, this clamp can hold cables and tubes and it is very easy and fast to open and close them.
That same mechanism with the rotation (hinge) bold and whingnut do I wanna use on a project of mine. But I can't find them online. Does any of you know what they are called (in English or Dutch).
Thank you all in advance!

When I was looking for a job out of school there were no mechanical design engineering positions open. If they were it was for a temp contract position.
Why is it rare to find this role? I am currently in mechanical design for plastics. I occasionally look at whats open in my region and it's always contract work. Is it because the industry has an older generation with >20 years at all these companies not leaving these roles?
The work for this type of position also seems underpaid.

If I want to work in Aerospace is it necessary to get an aerospace degree for it? I've seen people talking about how I can still get into it if I have a mechanical engineering degree which is more broad just more job opportunities in general. So is it even worth it getting an Aerospace Degree?
Additionally, if I get into NASA or Boeing for example, what would l even be doing there. For me I keep imagining myself going to a remote location where they launch rockets and working there for a long time which I do not want. Could I also get some information and clarification on this? Thanks!!

I'm an aspiring mechanical engineer graduate from India looking to enhance my skills by practicing with software like AutoCAD and SolidWorks. However, as a graduate, purchasing licensed versions can be quite costly for me. I've seen people in this community suggesting alternative methods to install these software, but I'm concerned about the risks of malware while installing pirated software.
Also, I'm planning to pursue my masters in mechanical engineering and I've been quite out of touch with the subjects since I have been unemployed since my graduation for 2 years and need to catch up with ..read more

As the title states, I'm curious as to the impact of your uni choice in Australia on your employment. From what I've read the general consensus is "no" , but I'm not sure if those answers where in the context of Australia.
Reason I am asking is I am about to start my master's in mechanical (or aerospace) engineering and I'm curious if certain employers prefer students from certain institutions.
I'd appreciate any thoughts too on the mechanical eng industry in Australia and the growth of the aerospace industry here. Thank you in advance

I am a Sophomore in community college working towards my Mechanical Engineering degree. I have a 3.89 GPA and plan on transferring out to University within the next semester or two. (Needing more time to finish credits due to work). I have the grades, but lack the experience. I'm very aware that experience is extremely important in this field. I've applied to many internships, but so far none have gone my way. One reason for this is that many of these recommend having 1-2 years of experience or certain certifications. This has left me with limited options. I'm looking for general advice, mayb ..read more
