This issue is part 3 of a series about my life in Boulder Creek. The first one is here. The second one is here. When you make friends with homeless people, you mainly want to see if you can help somehow. And you soon realize that the help that is needed is usually beyond your capabilities. They need money, shelter, food, medical care. Most have literally no more than the clothes on their backs. Steve, the man I mentioned last week who lives in his van, is actually in pretty good shape. He receives about $1500 a month from Social Security, and because he is disabled, he has Medicaid, which cove ..read more

Homeless Thanksgiving at Junction Park
Action Plan Marketing

This issue is part 2 of a series. The first one is here: I had been walking my two dogs around the downtown area of Boulder Creek and past Junction Park for a few weeks. Every day, I passed an old, dilapidated Dodge van with an elderly man sitting in the front seat. He was obviously homeless. A friend had recently suggested to me that I talk to homeless people instead of ignoring them. So, one day, I came up to his van and introduced myself. We talked briefly, I told him I walked past him every day with my dogs and just wanted to say hello. He was very receptive and friendly. I also learned th ..read more

My Boulder Creek Story

When I moved to Boulder Creek in 2002, I was on a roll with my business. I had published the InfoGuru Manual, and sales were strong. My wife, Saroj, was shipping out manuals every day. Soon after, I started my high-end group programs, and they were filling to capacity. After about five years of intensive work, I had made great money but was feeling burnt out. So, I cut back the group programs along with my income and settled into working with people at a slower pace and enjoying life in my home in the redwoods with a river in my backyard. I worked completely virtually via web, email ..read more

Welcome to Spring… and to Spring Cleaning!
Action Plan Marketing

Spring cleaning and organizing is a wonderful thing. As you clear your cluttered desk, you clear your cluttered mind. Dumping things you no longer need lightens your step. Organizing online files for easy access streamlines your work. My wife hired a home organizer a couple of weeks ago, and our home has been transformed. I caught the bug and decluttered my office, drawers, and vitamin bottles. And to top it all off, last week I did an Ordinary Visionary Interview with Marsha Sims, a professional organizer. I’ll be posting it on Friday. What is the impact of really getting organized? I consult ..read more

Opinions and Judgments
Action Plan Marketing

Many things in life are hard. Work is hard. Marriage is hard. Aging is hard. But none of these is as hard as not voicing our opinions and judgments. We all have an opinion or judgment about almost everything. This is not a modern phenomenon. Since the beginning of time, we have judged others as well as ourselves. It would be one thing if we had opinions and judgments and kept silent, but quite another thing to voice our opinions and judgments. “He or she is this way or that way.” “He should do that, and she shouldn’t do that.” “They should think that, and they shouldn’t think that.” “This is g ..read more

How Robert’s Getting His Groove Back

Have you ever started an exercise program, then quit, then tried again, and then quit again…Yeah, most of us have. It seems that this is the way most of us do it. I’ve been an on and off exerciser for more than 40 years.   I bought exercise equipment (many times) and then quit them all. I bounced to music on a rebounder, and then it got old. I signed up at a friggin’ CrossFit gym and then quit (Pain!). I joined a regular gym and then quit when the Pandemic hit. Most lasted a few weeks to a few months or maybe a year. Then I always got bored. And then we got two dogs.  And for the pas ..read more

Are You an Ordinary Visionary?
Action Plan Marketing
by Robert Middleton

An Ordinary Visionary is someone who generates creative ideas and consistently puts them into action and into the world. They recognize possibilities or opportunities that others often overlook, fueled by enthusiasm to take risks and bring their ideas to life. Are you an Ordinary Visionary? You possess a unique lens through which you view the world. You’re constantly pondering, “What if…? Hmm, that might work! I know, I’ll try that.” The lightbulb switches on and your ideas, whether you’re a businessperson, writer, or artist, might take time to crystallize, but once they do, you spring into ac ..read more

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of 2023
Action Plan Marketing
by Robert Middleton
3M ago
Well, 2023 has been one of the more interesting years of my life. I really don’t like to dwell on the past, but I thought it might be fun to share some of the highlights and lowlights of 2023 from my personal perspective. The Good I retired in August 2023 after being self-employed for 39 years, and it’s been a lot of fun (mostly). Now, not being focused on marketing and my clients’ challenges 24/7, I’ve allowed myself to get into things that I never seemed to have time for before. For instance… – This newly structured weekly eZine/blog, “The Way I See It” has let me explore and articulate idea ..read more
