Purchased new home that used ADT, panel is a EQ Panel 4. Can it be "wiped" for my own configuration?

I bought a house that was set up with a panel through ADT with door+window sensors and some cameras. I know I might have to replace the sensors and cameras, but is the EQ Panel 4 re-usable for my own stuff or do I pretty much have to just replace everything? I have a newly built house and want to get started on both home security and home automation - looking for the most futureproof option. I cannot find a good comparison review for both of these systems. Which would you prefer? Alarm.com appears to be slightly superior to Total Connect 2.0 from what I am seeing. submitted by /u/Strategy99 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Wireless Camera

I’m looking for a wireless camera that can continuously record and potentially store a couple days worth of footage. We have a massive speeding problem in our neighborhood and I’m looking to catch some repeat offenders. Diagonal from my house is a one of the blinking speed signs on a post that flashes the speed of the cars coming at it. So I don’t need the camera to identify speed etc, just to record the car and what the sign flashes. It’s a 25mph zone in a neighborhood but it’s not uncommon for people to go 35-50+mph. I’ve been dealing with the city on the matter but they aren’t doing anythi ..read more

ADT to Ring

New homebuyer here. Home we are moving into currently has ADT with the door sensors, motion detection, and glass break detection. I am considering Ring for the cheaper professional monitoring subscription (ADT quoted me $37 a month for first 12 months then $46 a month after). Would the ring retrofit be an option or should I just remove the ADT equipment and install ring equipment? submitted by /u/rlambert1925 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I just had an Alarm.com system installed with an IQ4 panel and video doorbell. I want another outdoor camera in my driveway. Should I get an Alarm.com camera or go with something like ring, blink, or wyze? Follow question is if I go with an Alarm.com camera should I drill through my wall to plug it inside or use a roof eve outlet? TIA submitted by /u/LocalRoadPriate [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Recommendations on where to install security cameras?

Here is the house I’d like to have the full perimeter of the house covered, including video doorbell. I like the idea of setting up an NVR for 24/7 recording that’s saved to local storage, and only uploading motion videos to a cloud, but I’m open to other suggestions. Looking for recommendations on camera placement and types of cameras (battery/solar/wired and floodlight/regular/etc) and also brand. I’m willing to have an electrician come up to set up wiring if needed, and I already have a wired light in the front and floodlights in the back as shown in the pics. Not sure if I should keep the ..read more

Home Security Service - First Time Home Owner

Afternoon All, I'm about to be a first time home owner and would love some advice on what security service people recommend. ADT? Ring? Vivint? Other? I'd like a doorbell camera and at least 1 other camera covering the back yard that integrates with the rest of the system into an app on my phone. I know all of those provide that, but want to know other's experiences and best value. The house is 2400ish SF on a corner lot in a quiet neighborhood. 3 entry doors, 1 garage door and a decent amount of windows. Thanks in advance! submitted by /u/Capable_Drawer4248 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Night Owl Camera/NVR Compatibility

Hello everyone, I hope someone can help me and my father on this issue because I am trying to find a solution. About 4 years ago, we set up a Night Owl system with like 16 cameras. However, the NVR went bad. After contacting Night Owl on the phone, they said my cameras are only compatible with only ONE NVR. That NVR is not being made anymore. I looked high and low all over the internet to find a used one to no avail. Are there any off-brand NVR's that I could use? See the link 4K Camera Compatibility for what cameras I have (IC8) The cameras I have are IC8, same as the NVR. As you can see, th ..read more

ADT experience after requesting a quote

I recently agreed to receive a quote online from ADT, just to get an idea of what their monthly charge is to see if it’s something I want to consider. BIGGEST MISTAKE. Now they won’t stop calling me. Multiple times a day, everyday. I finally decided to pick up and asked if they could just please send me a quote online and I will review. The person on the line was eager to transfer me to a sales rep right away to get that done. ? Fine, out of courtesy, I spoke with the sales rep. He spent maybe 5 minutes quickly giving me my options. Asked for the last 4 digits of my ss# too to run a credit ch ..read more
