I am so incredibly excited to announce my collaboration with Buttercream Clothing for the new Jen Pistor Cozy Capsule Collection. This lovely collection has been months in the making and I am so excited to bring you some brand new Buttercream silhouettes as well as some familiar favourites.  The Cozy Capsule collection consists of pieces I sketched in my notebook as items I wanted to have in my own wardrobe.  Thanks to Candice and the Buttercream Team, those sketches have come to life! I envisioned a small capsule collection of pieces that all worked together but could stand on thei ..read more

12 Days of LumberJill Apparel 2023

I had the pleasure to once again work with Canadian, Women-Owned Brand LumberJill Apparel to bring you 12 Days of styling LJA.  One of the most incredible things about small, slow fashion brands is how their styles aren’t fleeting.  There’s no here today gone tomorrow like the big fast fashion brands.  Slow fashion brands will often carry styles, not only one season to the next, but one year to the next. This year for our 12 Days I styled 3 new pieces, 2 pieces I received last year from them, and one from the Spring. Slow Fashion can be showing new, ethically made pieces, but it ..read more

I am passionate about supporting small, Canadian owned businesses.  Over the past couple of  years, I’ve been making an effort to shop more BIPOC owned, small, Canadian businesses.  There are some incredible small Indigenous owned brands that I have shopped with and so many more I keep discovering.  If you are looking to shop Indigenous shops, but aren’t familiar with many, I have created a list as a starting point.  The list includes apparel brands, beauty and wellness items, home goods, jewelry, art and literature, gift shops, food & wine, and even (one of my fav ..read more

Christine Marie is the founder of Saskatchewan based brand Awasis Boutique.  Christine is a Mom of two little ones and a woman of Metis + Filipino roots. While taking time off from teaching to be a stay at home Mom, Christine put her teaching areas of Home Economics + Native Studies to use. What started off as sewing a few bibs + aprons for another Mom, soon got some exposure on social media and Christine quickly started receiving multiple orders. This interest led her to do market research for Indigenous inspired baby and kids fashion lines. To her surprise, there was no such thing ..read more

During Fashion Revolution Week, I had the opportunity to shop at the My Sister’s Closet Commercial Drive location.  I took my time to look through each rack and select items that I knew would work perfectly in my wardrobe.  I was quick to grab these beautiful periwinkle blue trousers.  Not only were they my size, they were by a local designer I already have hanging in my closet.  These beauties are by Vancouver designer Tilda Ruvinga of TK by Tilda.  She is a local Black Designer who has made some of my favourite Summer items.  Finding these was a major wi ..read more

Meet Candice of Buttercream Clothing.  I have been a customer and have had the pleasure of working with Buttercream Clothing over the past several years with influencer collaborations, styling how to’s, and even guest writing for their The Cozy Corner Newsletter. Buttercream Clothing began at the kitchen table and grew to be the ethical, Canadian made brand we’ve come to know today. After having her first child, Candice started baking cakes for friends and family as a means to contribute to family income while being able to stay home with her small children. When searching for a cute, v ..read more

Canadian Secondhand Shopping Guide

I’m often asked for suggestions of where to shop when it comes to secondhand.  Yes, I shop the big, well known thrift shops as that is what is closest to me. However, I also love to support the small, independent shops whenever I can.  Months ago, I asked you to help me create a list of the secondhand shops you go to in your communities here in Canada.  I received an amazing list of small shops for clothing, kids clothes, furniture, and home goods.  Here is the list we created together. If you see a shop missing that you think I should add, just send me a DM over on Instag ..read more

Are We Disconnected From Our Clothing?

top: 4-ish years old from Buttercream Clothing, pants: were from a local, sustainable brand but no longer fit so I sold them, wool blazer: thrifted, straw clutch: small, local shop, shoes: secondhand, hat: 6+ years old I listen to a lot of podcasts on the subjects of slow fashion, sustainable living, and minimalism, even though I’m not a minimalist myself. On a minimalism podcast I heard the host say, and I’m paraphrasing, that we are too attached to our stuff and our clothes.  We shouldn’t say things like “I love this dress.” because it’s just a thing and things are disposable, not ..read more

Meet Cass from Hernest Project.  I have had the pleasure of working with Cass as a model and collaborating together on style content. I first fell in love with her brand back in 2019.  The softness of the fabrics, the ease of wear, and the classic designs that felt very modern and timeless. What wasn’t to love? I now have several pieces of Hernest in my wardrobe.  Some for sleep.  Some for day to day life.  All well worn and well loved.  Cass started Hernest because she couldn’t find beautiful, functional, sleepwear that could double as loungewear that was also ..read more
