Hey friends! It’s been a while since we’ve had the time to blog! Summer kept us busy with over 60 baby goats between our two farms, hosting events such as goat yoga, spending quality time with our families and of course making a lot of soap! Today I just wanted to share a little inspiration with anyone who might be going through a hard time or maybe you are just coming out of a difficult season. I hope to use a personal story to remind you (and me!) that God has a plan for everything, even when we go through storms and trials. So first let me introduce you to Liesel. Liesel is a very speci ..read more

Why Supporting Small Business is So Important

When you shop from a small business, you are not helping a CEO buy a third home.  You are helping a little girl take dance lessons, a little boy get his team jersey, a mom or dad put food on the table, a family pay a mortgage, or a student pay for college. {*And in our case, a little bit of all of those, plus help sustain our family farms where we strive to keep agriculture alive!} Our customers are our shareholders and they are the ones we strive to make happy.  Thank you for supporting small business. -unknown We wanted to share a little about how there is a ripple effect when you ..read more

This is Padme. She is one of the oldest gals in our farm family. She has lost most of her teeth which causes issues with her remaining molars. She has trouble keeping weight on, and despite loving being a mama, she is no longer able to have any more of her own. She always loves to be with the babies and has often been a surrogate mama nursing any kids that have been rejected by their own mama. We have had health scares with her requiring extra testing and medications (and high vet bills). She has issues with digestion which causes her to constantly have extra “foam” around her cheeks. Real Men Use Goat Milk Soap

Many men think of handmade soap as something floral or too feminine for them to consider. But come on guys, admit it.  A lot of you have dry sensitive skin... even if you are the coolest and toughest guy around!  We are happy to say that we have many men "ditch and switch" from commercial soap to our goat milk soap.  Some were skeptical at first, but after a few showers and noticing how their skin felt for the entire day, they are now our best customers!  Others just started using it because their wives, girlfriends, or families were firm believers in good skincare and bec ..read more

Little Pipsqueak was more than half the size of his three other siblings, so he'll be hanging in the house with Sarabi for the next few weeks. The best relationships usually begin unexpectedly   Our typical kidding season starts early March.  We breed our Nigerian Dwarf goats not only to expand our herd, we also place them in homes where folks want to also live a homesteading lifestyle with dairy goats, have children who participate in 4H/agricultural programs or just love these adorable souls as pets in their backyard.   When the babies are weaned, we then begin to milk t ..read more

Charcoal Lavender goat milk soap Without sounding boastful, we get a lot of folks telling us our soaps are beautiful.  We think so too, it reflects that we just love what we do.  But sometimes they follow up that wonderful compliment telling us they don't want to use them for that reason.  We quickly respond with a big fat "thank you" and follow with the encouragement to definitely start using them!  Yes, the colorants and herbs make our soaps pretty, but they are mainly used for the benefits they add.  We also remind them that there will always be more soap available ..read more

From Barn to Bar
Sparrow Soaps - Handmade Goat Milk Soap

One of the most important ingredients of our soaps is the rich creamy milk from our happy herd of goats. We raise them on our family farms and our lives are dedicated to keeping them healthy with exceptional husbandry practices. This includes getting up early every day, cleaning stalls, trimming hooves, giving supplements, tending to any and all of their needs 24/7.   During the sub zero New England temps, we are out there plowing our way to the barns in a foot of snow.  You will find us loading 500+ bales of hay in the 90% humidity and the relentless heat of our summers.   ..read more

One of the questions we get asked often is "How do you do it all?" Well that answer is easy....we don't always have it all together and get everything done!  As farmers, we know that even with well-intentioned plans, things don't always play out in a perfect schedule.   We are far from perfect!  Some days we get so much accomplished, and other days we are looking for our phone while holding it. Being the creators behind Sparrow Soaps is a very important facet in both of our lives, but we also have other obligations that we need to factor into our typical 16-18 hour day.   ..read more

It's Baby Goat Season!

When a baby is born, so is a mother. No matter how many times we witness the births of baby goats, we are still in awe of the miracle of it all!   Late winter and early spring are a very busy time for us on the farms.  Not only are we extra busy with marathon soap-making as we prepare for the market season, our mama goats are starting to give birth.  We try to stagger their "due dates" over a span of a few months so we won't be overwhelmed, but even a few mamas kidding together can add eight bouncing babies to the barn in less than a week!  We had that happen last week wi ..read more

What's in your soap?
Sparrow Soaps - Handmade Goat Milk Soap

In our last post, we talked about the wonderful benefits of goat milk in our soap, so today we'd like to share about some of the other natural ingredients that we choose to add into many of our soaps. Most commercially produced bars contain synthetic lathering agents, artificial colors, and a slew of chemicals we can't even pronounce. Antibacterial and antimicrobial soaps often contain triclosan. Triclosan is a toxic chemical that is known to cause cancer. Your skin is porous and absorbent. It absorbs whatever it comes in contact with, much the same as sticking something in your mouth.
