The Lawson Academy is a single-gender charter school south of downtown Houston. The public charter serves middle school boys and girls separately with an engaging curriculum. With the COVID-19 pandemic, distributing school lunches and breakfast became a priority for the administration. Most students that attend The Lawson Academy are in low income families. Access to healthy meals is important for students that are continuing classes via distance learning.

The McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival has brought games, rides, entertainment, and circus acts to delight children in downtown Houston for more than 30 years. This year’s children’s festival runs March 30 and 31. Events take place in the area surrounding City Hall, Hermann Square, Houston Public Library Plaza, Sam Houston Park, and Tranquility Park.
