In many states across the country COVID restrictions are easing, weather is warming and that is affording us with a bit more freedom than any of us have experienced in the past 12 months.  During that year, so many of you have given birth to multiples.  Have you been locked inside the bubble of your home with these perfect new babies and not had to venture out into the world because of quarantine?  If you have, you may be starting to feel overwhelmed thinking to yourself, “I would love to try going to public places or running errands but how do I do that with multiple infants an ..read more

Navigating decisions during COVID19

A few months ago, my blog was about navigating COVID19 very early on in the pandemic. While the pandemic is very much still here, we know a lot more about COVID19 than we did 7 months ago and some of the decisions we have made have certainly changed from our initial very strict lockdown. As a mum of twin two year olds and a heath care worker, just some of the questions I have had to ask are: Should we send our children to daycare? Should I still be seeing my patients in clinic face to face? Should we allow our children to have playdates with families we know? Do I skip their first dental check ..read more

Parents make the decision to exclusively pump for all sorts of reasons – latching issues, early return to work or school, to facilitate scheduling, medical conditions, or weight gain concerns. Sometimes, parents choose exclusively pumping as the way they will feed their babies from the get-go, knowing putting babies to chest is just not for them. Any way you look at it, making the decision to provide breastmilk for your child is one to be admired, even if it doesn’t look the way you had pictured pre-babies.   Breastmilk supply is generated in response to dema ..read more

When your body is trying to make room for two or more growing babies it can often leave us with lifelong problems. Pregnancy changes our bodies forever and can affect our health and happiness. As a family nurse practitioner and twin mom, I have seen these complaints often in my patients and with my own body. Three common abdominal problems after pregnancy are umbilical hernias, diastasis rectus and pelvic floor issues. Although these problems are not exclusive to twin pregnancies it does occur at a higher rate for us blessed with twins!! Umbilical Hernia An umbilical hern ..read more

1. It’s easier to travel/navigate public places and nature. My twins are native New Yorkers. We lived in Manhattan when they were born and moved to the Bronx when they were toddlers. They were riding the subway by the time they were 6 weeks old, and they got on a transatlantic flight at 3 months to go visit relatives. I don’t know about where you live, but NYC is a beast to navigate with any stroller, let alone a giant side-by-side or tandem. There are curbs, narrow doorways and aisles, crowded elevators (if you’re lucky) and steep stairs that you must negotiate daily just to go about the no ..read more

The Great Outdoors

Over the past four months our country has been in some form of quarantine, lockdown or strict regulations of who you can see, how many people can be there, where you can go and what you can do. Over the past four months, my husband and I made the conscious effort to get our children outdoors and not be stuck inside the house. There are plenty of activities and adventures you can go on even without leaving your neighbor and are social distance approved.  Communicate with several neighbors on your block about going on a “Bear Hunt”. Yes, you all probably know the famous children’s book, “W ..read more

“How many sets of twins do you have?” asked the man behind me in line at the grocery store as I was checking out with my seven children in tow. “Three. And a singleton,” I answered. He said he couldn’t wait to go home and tell his wife. Since he was so excited to have seen such an unusual sight, I told him he could Google us. I told him we had an interview on Good Morning America and were on People.com. I know we are a shocking sight, but sometimes I forget how we must look to other people as I struggle through the aisles trying to keep them from wrestling with each other or knocking things of ..read more

After moving across the country with our 2.5 year old twins in the middle of a pandemic, I felt like we could do anything. But then we were faced with another agonizing decision: what do we do about school this fall? My husband and I both have very flexible jobs and can easily work remotely. I’m so grateful for that especially now, during the pandemic. But because we are always at home, I wanted the twins to go to preschool so they would have a change of scenery, be around friends, and give us some space in the house. After much deliberation and reviewing multi-page documents about new health ..read more

There are many books and articles on how best to introduce your toddler to a baby sibling. And like most of you, we were so excited about extending our family we bought as many books as possible. Our two year old son learned one thing from all of the books. Babies cry. This he would repeat frequently.  Are you excited to be a big brother? Babies cry. Wow! Are you going to be a big helper for mom? Babies cry. He was not wrong in his prediction of baby behavior!   Books While we incorporated books on big brothers and big sisters to our daily reading rotation, we also brought hom ..read more
