The hospitality industry has a dramatic impact on the environment. Energy usage, water consumption, wastage, and the use of consumable goods are all contributing factors.
This is only one part of the reason why sustainability is the key to a successful business in the 21st Century. There is also the commercial aspect. Getting sustainability right can mean opportunity and additional profit. Failing to get it right won’t just mean you’re damaging the environment—you could be damaging your business.
Sustainability – why now?
Consumers are increasingly demanding more social and environmental respo ..read more

Lockdowns are over. So, everyone is ready to attend events in person again… right?
There’s no denying that in-person events are back at full-pelt, however with shorter lead-times, increased travel disruption and demand for availability, how can organisers ensure they’re still attracting the audience numbers to ensure success?
It’s a split opinion – but our research indicates that at least 40% of organisers are planning on having some virtual elements to attract online attendees, as well as those in the room.
That’s why, in this article, I’ll be looking at hybrid events—how they work, why they ..read more

Sustainability sells. As a result, greenwashing is becoming more and more common. So why wouldn’t you greenwash? Well, you could get into more trouble than you think…
What is greenwashing?
Greenwashing is when an organisation makes it seem like they’re doing more for the environment than they actually are.
It makes sense—the more your company appears to care for the environment, the more business you can potentially get. It can give you a competitive edge and it can help you access a new, increasingly conscious customer base.
However, making “green” claims could get you in trouble with the Com ..read more

Chris Peacock, Owner & Director, Conference Care
I’ll be the first to put my hand up and admit it – I don’t like being told what’s good for me. This is probably why at age 16, I found myself leaving a perfectly nice home, sporting a Mohican hairdo and off on life’s big adventure. Now 40 years on, I find myself having the same reaction when being told that I really must adopt an instant booking tool for small meetings.
Why? Well – “it’s the future”, small meetings are simple & transactional, and apparently all agency clients are clamouring that they have to be able to book their s ..read more

Sally McNamara, Head of Digital Services at Conference Care, gives her thoughts:
Even before 2020, we found that the need for Event Apps was on the rise. Whether organisers were adopting a more sustainable approach, trying to streamline operations at their live event or simply wanting their delegates to have a better UX (user experience), an App was becoming the go-to solution in bringing a digital element to their events.
The technology now available has come on in leaps and bounds and Apps are more in demand than ever. There’s a few contributing factors to this. I think one of the key ones f ..read more

During the year plus of lockdown & restrictions, one thing I found is that it gave me a lot of time to be a bit introspective, contemplate the past and think about returning in the future as a stronger and more meaningful organisation. To people who know me this will come as no surprise – I do it a lot!
This has led to many changes within the business! A far more active, focussed approach to sustainability, system changes which help us to work how we want to work, new services added and allowing our creative side to come out.
The desire to lead our industry sector, to develop and change ha ..read more

It seems a bit strange opening a blog about events by talking about Tesla and electric cars but be patient. If you were to ask the man on the street to name an electric car brand, Tesla would consistently be in the top 3. In 2020, they sold about ½ million electric vehicles. A considerable year on year increase but at the same time, it accounts for less than 1% of the global market share for electric cars.
What Tesla have done, however, is set the standard for electric vehicles and lead the market. Where Tesla have led, others now follow and the major marques of Toyota, VW and Nissan accounted ..read more

Our Sales Director Mark Upham recently attended this event as a delegate – here’s his thoughts and reflections on how it felt –
Phone… wallet… mask… hand gel… negative lateral flow test. All the essentials needed for my first business event since February 2020. It felt a little bit like the first day back at school after the summer holidays. I even ironed a shirt, something I’ve not done for over a year.
So, where did I go and what did I do? I attended Talking Point, the Future of Events, at Millennium Point in Birmingham. It was a hybrid event with about 50 people in the room and another 100 ..read more
